With todays tools, it is not hard to do, especially if you get a good performance out of the actors the first time, just have them say exactly the same thing. You can then use time morphing and controling features of your NLE to map the dialog specifically with the re recorded material.

Again, this is a lot of work and should not be done unless you are really ready to spend a whole lot of time on just dialog, but the results can be very very good.

Exactly;

Having someone whose sole responsibility is to check the Audio will free you up to concentrate on your duties; making your movie; handling the camera; checking the lighting and exposure levels.

But hey! It's your movie.

Okay, I'll meditate on the sound guy option again. One small problem is there aren't a whole lot of experienced sound technicians in my area, but I'll look around.

...If you had to pick two mics (outdoor/indoor, under $500 each) to do a job without the sound tech, which would you buy?

John, I take it you're a fan of "Return of The Living Dead"?
Did you ever look really closely at the eye chart in Burt Wilson's office? If you didn't, try looking at it on a big screen (pausing the DVD helps). It's enough to give Burt a black eye looking at it...

Roger

Yes; I am aware of the "Burt is a cheap and/or slave driver........"

I love that film. Lot's of neat facts at this site:
