FilmLook clip 24fps
 

I created a quick and dirty film look test just to see. I have to say, for the 5 minutes of fiddling I did, I got results far exceeding any other filmlook method I would try. It's really nice to start with true 24fps.

Plus, the total rendering time including DV Filmmaker pulldown removal and rendering grain, color correction, sharpening and B&W in After Effects was 12 minutes (3 in DV Filmmaker, 9 in AE) on dual 1 Ghz Pentium III.

PS Chris, can we move this clip onto your servers before my webhost shuts me down?

It's amazing what a difference 24p makes. I'm looking forward to seeing how close people can mimic the feel of film with this camera. It gives hope to people like me that are still figuring out that opening the iris decreases the depth of focus.

Stephen I have to say that this clip looks very good... Kind of like 16mm [with a bit less resolution of course...]

I've seen other uncompressed samples from different users testing the DVX100 but that's the first time that I actually like the final result. So far what I've seen with the pulldown frames left intact would give a very jerky and irregular movement, especially during panning as all the frame changes and irregularities become very noticeable and annoying...

Do you know if other progs can do that pulldown removal, like Avid XDV for instance ? (I'm new to the 24fps scene)

Did you do any kind of extensive testing with the aperture / exposure / recording options [24p (s) - 24p (a) - 30p - 60i] regarding the fluidity of the movement and what did you think of it overall ?

I have to say when I first looked at clips captured with this camcorder I was really disappointed but now I'm definitively considering it as a nice little camcorder for shorts and documentaries...

PS I too would like to see the result in color.

Yeah, I read on 2-pop where somebody slammed me for the trouble they were having in getting Panasonic's clips off my site. They said I had an "unprofessional hosting solution." What they don't realize is that my ISP had all five T1 lines pretty much maxed out from people downloading those clips. Jeff had to put a throttle control on 'em because the server was brought to its knees by all the traffic.

DV Info Net has been moved to a business traffic account with a major provider in the Bay area (thanks to Jeff for handling the migration). We've now got scads of bandwidth to deal with video clips, which hopefully should be sufficient for the demand.

Just gotta figure out how you can get the color clip up there...
