What's the film look mode? 30P? 24P?
The XL1 doesn't have progressive scan CCDs. It uses a different method for capturing progressive. The DVX100 uses progressive scan CCDs. In 30P, both capture by skipping every 2nd frame, and this frame capture is then interlaced for VHS and S-video output. The big difference is that the DVX captures then interlaces, whereas the XL1 captures 2 fields at the same time (or almost the same time) and then uses interplolation to create a frame.
