DVX100 Review at Digital Editing
 

Saw that over at Digital Video Editing they have a review of the AG-DVX100 written by Erik Holsinger. I haven't read it yet but thought some of you might appreciate yet another review of this camera.

good review - pretty fair to the cam.

They don't mention the audio sync issue however, unless I perused it too fast.

Christopher is correct.

I read throught all four pages of the review twice and there was no mention of the audio synch nor color fringe issues. However, having said that, the review was nicely constructed with pictures of menues and some representative frame grabs.

Pound-for-pound and dollar-for-dollar it still appears that the DVX100 is a camcorder worth considering.

The DVX100 is a great camera. The fact that is has issues is not unique. It's main competitors (Sony PD150 and Canon XL1S) have issues also.

If there were one best car, everyone would be driving it. Instead we have dozens of manufactures and hundreds, if not thousands, of models. Why do we insist that there must be one best video camera, when there are clearly, alternatives.

The DVX100 benefits from being the most current model in it's class. It offers features and benefits over and above it's competition. However, for some types of video production, it is not the best choice because certain issues (lack of AF in some modes, video delay, etc.). For many users these issues are non-issues, they deal with audio sync in post. However, in some productions, the issues result in disruptions to the work flow, post production delays etc. These users are better off looking at the alternatives. This is not a one size fits all industry.

I couldn't agree with you more. Personally, my comments should have been preceded with the following disclaimer: "Let's have balanced reporting." BTW, I stopped looking for the Holy Grail of camcorders some time ago when I decided not to spend over $5,000 for one.
