DVX100 Theatrical Widescreen

Is it possible to use a dvx100 with an optex anamporhpic lens along with in camera 16 x 9 to have a final result of theatrical widescreen (2.85:1 i think)? If it is possible how would i capture that into premiere? Could I use magic bullet to letterbox so it is 4:3? Tell me everything you know about this! Thanks!

No, just got the DVX last week, as was a little bummed out that the internal 16x9 only places a matte over the image, instead of the crop/stretch/record method that the XL1 uses. The internal 16X9 is for shit, and for that reason I will either be shooting 4X3 for cropping to 16x9, or cropping to 2.35:1, or maybe I'll be getting an anamorphic adapter.

As far as 2.35:1 goes, I have read this one guy's site whereby he has been rigging cinemascope projector lenses to dv cameras, with seeming success. I looked on ebay, and they're going for about $20 right now. I wrote down the web address of the dude's site under a topic I started "cinemascope lense rigged to dvx".

I'm just musing... if this is your goal then maybe the way to go would be the Sony PDX-10 with its 16:9 CCD's plus an anamorphic lens. I guess you could use the "distort" control in FCP to get the proper proportions in the final image by letterboxing it in a 16:9 frame. Anybody ever try that combination?
But I also wonder whether the end result would be any better than simply cropping the 16:9 image to the desired aspect ratio instead of the "dual anamorphic" approach.

Panasonic just came out with a 16:9 adaptor for the DVX100.
