Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
This caught my eye. I tried to link to the official Panasonic product page but it seems to be down (or very busy) at the moment...perhaps because this M43 thing can shoot 4K video with the same 100Mbps codec as the GH4. I can see a ton of applications for this little cam :-)

Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
From what I understand the lens on this camera is comparable with my 12-35mm panasonic lens in terms of focal length but it's faster on the wide end (f1.7) and it has a camerabody attached to it and it's cheaper??

OK, found some limited info on the Panasonic UK site - link below.

Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
From what I can see in the video the iris ring is not declicked, I only hope you can cycle through the iso range by using the dial on the back, having the shutter button on top is not that useful for video as you have that fixed to 1/50th or 1/100 most of the time. I only wished they would have crammed a nd filter in there as well, can't have it all I guess.

No headphone port?

Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
It's going to sell for $800 which means approx £500 in the UK most likely.
I would definitely consider buying this and sell my NEX 7. http://www.cnet.com/products/panasonic-lumix-dmc-lx100/ |

Far more excited about this camera than I was about the Canon 7DMkII specs (especially after viewing the video sample Canon put out this weekend)...but at least Canon give you a headphone port on the 7D now!!!! (and "soft" 1080p50/60...). Panasonic (and Sony) seem to be moving at a different development pace with what we've seen announced the last few days. |
Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
Did I not read somewhere there was a timelimit on recording in 4k to prevent overheating?
|
Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
I think 15 minutes - not sure where I read that so needs to be checked.

Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
£799 per Wex Photographic. Fifty quid dearer than the for me more comprehensive FZ1000.
I suppose attractive to those who don't need a long zoom but I wonder about the handling and controls which not that brilliant on the bulkier FZ1000. Ron |

Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
Yes, found that confirmed in the footnote in the specs. What a shame! Reminds me of the pain it was shooting interviews with my Canon 7D a few years ago...needing to restart the recording every 12 (or so) minutes really disrupts the flow of interviews.
Not sure if this is to protect the GH4 or to protect this tiny camera (because of heat build-up). Wonder if the more upmarket Leica badged variant of this cam, the Leica-D-Lux (which will come with different firmware) will also have this limit? |

Here's another video shot with the LX100.

Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
Does it have analog video out while recording?

Re: Panasonic LX100 - 4K Video M43 Compact
Sony, please take note:
Your competition is using 100mbps to SDXC cards, NOT the 60mbps that you are using for your consumer grade codec. (Panny FZ100 and LX100) Please challange Panasonic and match their bitrates with your new competing models. (I.e. Sony "RX20" or RX100 mk4) |
