I took the plunge because I didn't have money for the GH1.Believe me an extra £50 for me is too much. But I think I did the right thing. It's not just for video but for stills as well. So I am pleased. Can't wait to try it out.

Re: Recommend GH1?

So what is the recording limit for the GH1 and GH2 if bought in the UK?

and if bought outside the EU?

is it 30 mins in the EU and whatever fills the card elsewhere? I use the Canon DSLRs exclusively but wouldn't mind a longer continuous record time maybe as a locked off option.

Many thanks.

Re: Recommend GH1?

GH1 and 2 are limited to 29 mins 59 sec movies in the EU.

cheers Tom, hope you're well.

So could I just get one outside the EU and have continuous recording at 24mb/s?

Re: Recommend GH1?

You asked Tom, but I'll chime in...the U.S. version is limited only by your battery and card size. A 32GB card will record for hours...battery lasts for a bit over an hour, depending on whether you're using the LCD or not.

Re: Recommend GH1?

Thanks Jeff. I kept stum because I didn't know the answer. The EU version is knobbled simply for tax (import duty) reasons. It's a still camera up to 30 mins, beyond that it's a video camera and is charged more tax. Crazy do-lally politicians.

Re: Recommend GH1?

Thanks Jeff. So the battery would last for just over an hour with LCD on I assume, or off?

Only thing stopping me I think is the stupid lack of 25p as I'd have to conform in Cinema Tools and I'm thinking that would mess with syncing in Pluraleyes?

Re: Recommend GH1?

Yes, probably last about one hour 10-20 minutes. Don't ask me about frame rates, don't know how that would work no clue. 25p is better than 24p, such a shame.

I'd check for PAL versions that don't have the limitations, if there is such a thing. For example, in Australia are they hobbled with the 29 minute thing? Don't know, but something to check into.
