GH2 HDMI out
According to Philip Bloom (First bit of filming with Panasonic GH2 and good news about clean HDMI OUT! | Philip Bloom) the GH2 has clean HDMI out. Does this mean that one could record the HDMI right onto say, a KiPro or Nanoflash *without* hitting the record button on the camera? Would you get 24p or 60i? 4:2:0 or 4:2:2? If you could record like this, would that mean bye-bye to 12 minute clips? Bloom said he will try it with a Nanoflash next week, but I am interested in the "do I have to record on the camera itself to get 24p to my recorder?" question.

I don't know about the other recorders but the NanoFlash can be set to trigger several ways so you don't have to record in camera, just hit the NF's record button.
There is no time limit with the NanoFlash, as long as your cards aren't full - it splits files into 3.5gb (I think) but doesn't stop recording. If you record over 50mbs the NF is 4:2:2 8 bit (if you use 35mbs it is 4:2:0 8 bit) The NF doesn't convert so it only records what you put in to it. If the camera outputs 24p you need to the the NF to 24p. If it outputs 60i you need to set to 60i. |
The GH1 & GH2 do not have a 12 min recording limit like Canon DSLR cameras.
