Creating and Using Custom Settings and Assigning Function Buttons

Just making my way through the first day. What a camera!

I like the controls - much better than the Canon's. As a documentary guy, I need the controls to be very accessible. I like the GH2's ISO and WB on the rear user dial - great feature! And just above the aperture and shutter dial. These four controls are used continously while shooting for me as I move from scene to scene with little set up time. On the Canon 7D they are placed on the top along with the second dial - plain dumb to do that. And the GH2's histogram is displayed all the time - sold!! My only gripe so far is the 2.5 mic - that it is not the more common 3.5, which fits the Rode Mics.

Now my next step is to set up custom memory settings for profiles - anyone using these? If so, how are the profiles working for you? Also the function buttons can be assigned which I like - there are three and just wonder what anyone is assigning to them? My first thought is to assign the audio level? Plus I wonder if you can assign a custom menu screen?

I bought this as I needed a small light camera that would be very stealth. I just ordered a Gitzo mountaineer tripod so I have an entire shooting package in a small backpack for those tough remote locations and also good for crowded street scenes!
