Poor Movie Quality
 

I have a GH3 operating firmware version 1.1 and I am using a 27" iMac, Mid 2011, Processor; 3.4GHz Intel Core i7, Memory; 16GB 133MHZ DDR3, Graphics; AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048MB, Software OSX 10.8.3.

When I insert a SD card into my card reader I get the warning "No images on the memory card meet the download conditions." This warning occurs if there is both still and movie files just movie files or just still files in all formats.

When played back the movie files are of poor quality and moving subjects are jerky. I have sent the camera back to Panasonic. They were very helpful but claim that there is nothing wrong with the camera. I have used various memory cards, card readers and connecting cables, all with the same results.

Please describe the circumstances where this warning appears. What programs are running?

With no programs running and importing a .MOV file via the Finder into an external thunderbolt storage unit via a card reader I get the warning,"No images on the memory card meet the download conditions." The files will import but the quality is very poor. Objects that are moving move in a jerky fashion.

Have you tried taking an SD card with video files to another machine to see what happens? For example, if the files are avchd, any current windows laptop with a card reader should play the files fine. You could go to any Best Buy and try and test the card in a display model?

I'm wondering if it's a software issue rather than a camera/card issue.

Which editing program are you using? Try visiting the appropriate forum here for your editing software also.

There is no condition that I have ever encountered or can right now imagine on OS10.8 that has or can create the error you mention. Either you see the MOV files on the SD card in the DCIM folder in the finder or you don't. Are you sure that the program Image Capture hasn't launched? You should be able to play the files directly from the card.

If you have recorded in AVCHD, the files would be in the private folder which is a little hard to get at directly in the finder although Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Preview and Image Capture will go straight to the files for import.

As I have never attempted to record using the VGA movie mode, I have no idea how that would show up.

The final query along the lines from Jeff, does the card reader work with other SD cards?

I got this answer:

The message you get about download conditions has nothing to do with your card nor with FCPX. Do you have Canon ImageBrowser or any similar picture browser software installed on your computer? If so: disable it and the problem will be gone.

I had ImageBrowser installed. I removed it and the warning no longer appears.

Hmmm, a Canon program that doesn't like Panasonic video files. Who would have thought?
