Mounting a Zoom recorder next to the GH camera

The recent thread about the Beachtek audio adapter got me thinking about my audio set-up with the GH cameras I have. Since I already have two Zoom recorders, one the typical H4N, the other a table top R16, buying the proper Beachtek audio adapter for the GH series seems overkill as it costs more than half the price of the GH3 body and I am then recording to whatever compressed audio format the GH makes instead of WAV files in the Zoom recorders.

What I am looking for is some way to mount the H4N to the right side of the camera, on the tripod head, so the LCD screen on the Zoom is always facing me. This way it moves with the camera, the cable is reasonably short if I decide to run a monitor line into the GH audio in and I can keep track of levels and recording status without looking down which is what I have to do now with the Zoom hanging on to a tripod leg with a Gorilla Pod.

I have looked and looked but found nothing outside of cage rigs. That would not work with my viewfinder loupes. If I could get half a cage rig, that would be ideal. Any suggestions or inspiration out there?

Hmmm, could work with a ball joint. Thanks, I'll look into it.

If you're shooting to .movs on the GH3 the audio is not compressed at all.

It is 48k 16bit. The Zooms default to 44.1k so you have to remember to change it to 48 when you change batteries.
