Compare the Sony AX2000 with a newer one?
Hi, 12 years ago I used the Sony AX2000 (4K) camera (camcorder) to make my documentaries around the world. I filmed and still continue to film the traditions of indigenous peoples.
Since I didn't like the Sony AX2000 very much in terms of image quality, image quality and in particular its definition, three-dimensionality, etc. I sold it and bought the Lumix GH6. The GH 6 gives me far better results when it comes to video quality. But I find it too difficult to use it quickly. In fact I get the shots wrong too often. I don't want a watch and shoot camcorder. ahahaha I would like a more serious camcorder. I'm more inclined towards a camcorder than a camera. I can handle it better. My question: Is there a small camcorder like the Sony AX2000 today but which can give better video results? I guess it can't come close to the results of the GH6, but at least it's close. I would like some advice from those who know this world well. Thanks for some info. |

You could just type "Compare sony ax2000 to sony z200" into ChatGPT and you will see dozens of ways a modern camera, such as the Z200, beats the hell out of an old AX2000. Too many differences and improvements to post here. The differences are night and day.

OK, I thank you so much for your suggestions. But there is a big difference between the GH6 and the Sony Z200 regarding video quality? I would like to understand if there is much difference. Thanks again.

Re: Compare the Sony AX2000 with a newer one?
Nobody is going to be able to answer your questions about the differences in video quality between two cameras unless they have both cameras in their hands and have taken the time to do some head-to-head testing. And even then, you would have to trust that the testing was done properly and with settings that YOU would use yourself if you had either camera. That just isn't to happen because there are too many cameras on the market.
And most people would never waste time comparing two totally different cameras, such as the GH6 and a camcorder, such as the Z200. They are totally different tools for totally different kinds of shooting. Most experienced professionals would first decide what TYPE of camera would suit their needs best, and then compare only cameras in that category. It's the same reason you don't find any reviews comparing a pickup truck to a sports car. What would be the point? You first have to decide how you will use the vehicle. If you want the answers to how two very different cameras compare, you will have to get your hands both cameras and do the testing yourself, rather than asking other people to do it for you. But beyond that, you are too focused on image quality. There are hundreds of cameras available today that are fully capable of shooting high-end video with broadcast/theatrical image quality. The more important differences are in each camera's features, ergonomics, cost, portability, workflow in post, etc. Focusing primarily on image quality is like shopping for a new car and the only thing you care about is engine horsepower. If image quality was the most important thing, then we'd all be shooting with an Alexa or a Venice. But we don't, because there are other considerations that need to be taken into account. By your own admission, the GH6 is not the right camera for how/what/when you shoot: Quote: "But I find it too difficult to use it quickly. In fact I get the shots wrong too often." You should just forget about comparing image quality, and focus on getting a camera that will actually let you come home with more great footage --- without missing a lot of opportunities. If that means getting a camcorder, instead of a sexy mirrorless camera, then do it. Nobody watching your finished video will give a rat's ass what you shot it with if the content is compelling. But I know I am wasting my time and you won't listen. Just as you have never listened to any of the advice you've been given here and at DXuser from many experienced professionals whenever it doesn't match what you want to hear. |

It was a pleasure reading you. You gave me some super wonderful advice. I don't know how to thank you.
It's partly true and partly not true what you say that I don't listen to anyone. All of us must settle what some professionals advise us and then decide for themselves. I have always listened and read carefully and then I myself decided. Sometimes I've even made mistakes, but the fact that I'm here asking people who are more experienced than me, means that I understand that the advice is excellent. But unfortunately sometimes you also have to deal with the budget. Thanks again for your valuable advice. |
