Hard to judge cause the clip is soooooo compressed.
You don't need to use cleaner, you can get great results with compressor.
Love the skater shot.
thanks for posting Robert

I guess that really depends on how picky you are. That footage had an awful lot of shots that just wouldn't be acceptable to a lot of people.

It will be great to see this clip with better compression.

Gotta love the Skater.

As I mentioned, the built-in Compressor settings look horrible; both color and detail suffered greatly. I won't repost a higher bitrate version (don't want to overload Chris's servers - this site is *free* you know) but will post stills from the shoot to show just how good things looked on the timeline.

The compression isn't obscuring the focal plane, and a lot of those shots are just buzzed.

If you and your client are happy with the footage then that's all that matters and I'm envious of you not needing to drag around an external monitor.

Compression does affect both sharpness and color. It would have been preferable to have either the LH900 or LH80W monitor on hand (that Astro was crap) but as you can see it's easily possible to *get by* with just the flip-out LCD. Had this been shot with DigiPrimes rather than the lens adapter image sharpness would have increased substantially but we would have lost the deep DOF. It's always a tradeoff, either way.

Stills from original, unedited MXF files; judge for yourselves.

Robert,

That footage looked amazing! Great moves, colors, and great DOF. Beautiful stuff from the 500!
