Where to get DVCPROHD codec?

for Windows XP

must be accessible to After Effects!

Avid supplies a quicktime DVCPRO HD codec with Xpress Pro HD 5.0 that works within all apps that support quicktime. The codecs can be freely distributed, so perhaps someone on the list will host them for you.

are you saying Avid DV100 is functionally the same as DVCPROHD?

Brad Abrahams March 4th, 2005 11:57 AM

It's exactly the same.

Jan Crittenden Livingston March 5th, 2005 09:03 AM

Avid is a partner with Panasonic and as such their HD version will work with the DVCPROHD signal. They too are looking forward to this new camera.

FWIW,

Final Cut Pro 4.5 also includes the codecs as well as presets for using them.

So do you folks think Vegas will not get DV100 support soon because of Sony's new HDV cams?

Barry Green March 8th, 2005 05:10 PM

I think it would be very foolish of them to limit their program due to the politics of the parent company. I also would be very surprised if they chose to do that. Vegas has always been one of the most format-agnostic, resolution-agnostic, frame-rate-agnostic editing programs -- you can mix and match any resolution, any frame rate, any codec all on the same timeline.

If they chose to not support DVCPRO-HD, even though their two biggest competitors (Avid and Apple) support it natively, it could only go badly for them.

I'm hoping fervently that they will include support for it. You can go to the Vegas support forums and click on "request feature" and ask them to include it as well. Hopefully NAB will bring us good news!
