HPX2000 Line issue

For some reason, my HPX2000 keeps recording weird lines. They don't show up on the viewfinder or flip out screen, but when I go to edit, it shows up and I start banging my head against my desk.
Situations it's happened in:
Filming press interviews. Camera was on for several hours and recording was stops and started several times. In air conditioned conference room, but next to 500W softbox.
Outdoor concert shoot. Color camera. Camera was turned on and off several times and recording was stopped and started several times. very dry. low 60s to low 50s.
Outdoor concert shoot, main camera. Camera was on for about 4 hours. Turned off every hour or so for a fresh battery until power cable was found. Recording when on(most of the time) slightly humid, mid 80s in the shade.

It's happened several other times, but these are the ones I remember at the moment. I've included a picture so you can see the issue.

David,
Not sure how to help. I would show this jpg to Panasonic and ask them. It is hard to believe you haven't seen it monitored out and then it records that way. Any chance you left the record tab on your P2 card in the record position when transferring on a mac?

If you're talking about the "protect card" tab on the end of the card, I usually leave that off so I don't forget and then freak out when the camera wont record. Should I be switching it to safe mode during transfers?

Yes Yes Yes you should be protecting the card before transferring. Especially on a Mac as it somehow writes invisible little files to the card when mounting on the desktop which could bother disrupt the P2 files. (weird but it happens) Does it happen more on fully filled cards? This may be your issue, maybe not. Did you send the file to Panasonic?

I haven't sent the file to them yet.
I import the clips with final cut using the "log and transfer" function. Would that cause issues?

Re: HPX2000 Line issue

David,
If you look at the clip in Log and transfer does it show the problem or does it look clean and then it has the lines once imported? What you want to determine is when the problem becomes evident. If it looks clean and then is corrupted in Log and transfer that would indicate a different issue than if the problem is in the clip from the beginning. Have you tried looking at the clips using P2CMS and see if the problem is visible? Problem solving can be tedious but very worthwhile in narrowing down the issue.

It has lines before I import it when I look at it in log and transfer.

Re: HPX2000 Line issue

That tells me the problem is not a Final Cut issue (not unexpected and too bad but lets move on)K Keep backtracking along the data path to see if you can determine when the problem is created. You might have to record some tests to see if you can have a clean recording from the camera corrupted by the transfer to Mac or whether the problem is in the recording of the camera to the P2. Seriously you should get Panasonic to look at it so they can tell you what they think is going on.
