New HVX Pics

One thing I always wanted while in my pre-purchase research for the HVX were larger, detailed photos of the unit and other angles of the body that Panasonic didn't cover and other user pics don't show.

Now that I have mine I'm going to give others that are curious about the camera (and don't have one locally to look at) the benefit of these pics.

There will be 2 versions of the photos: The stock out-of-the-box version and a few with the Century Optics/Vocas matte-box system.

(edited after Chris's post)

I'll upload these to the forum gallery either later today or first thing Monday (2-6-06) for all to see.

Photos are online

I've uploaded a small sample of HVX images to the image gallery. I don't normally shoot product, especially in my dining room (laughs), but these should do the trick.

If anyone's curious how this was shot at home here's the "how & what":

What:

Canon 1Ds MKII set to large JPEG; 50mm f/1.4; (5) 580EX Strobes wireless - 1 on-camera used as non-firing master and 4 slaves; (1) Photoflex large Multi-disc.

How:

I pulled down the artwork from our off-white wall which became the impromptu backdrop. The main light @ "9 o'clock" (2) 580EX strobes shot through the Photoflex Multi-disc "silk" panel. Another strobe @ "2 o'clock" high and slightly behind the HVX with a Sto-fen diffuser pointed down on the HVX top. The last strobe was placed on the floor pointed up and wide directly behind the HVX to wash out the wall. (It you look closely in some photos the wall isn't completely washed out.)

I almost never shoot product and am used to shooting wide open apertures most of the time, so in a few I forgot to stop down further to get all the camera details sharp. In other images, I purposely left it wide open for effect.

Enjoy.

Thanks Robert!

Matte-Box

That matte-box is the one designed to fit the Z1 and slightly modified to fit the HVX. It's the "wide" version from Century Optics and with the sidewings it was a little over $2k if I remember correctly.

C.O. still doesn't have the HVX matte-box system ready yet. The locating pin is a slightly different smaller size than the rest of the systems and the rail mounting needs to be about 4mm higher to make a centered fit on the lens.

Update:

I talked with Century Optics today; they actually do have the proper HVX compatible rail-mount now.
