Why would the FS-100 not do 720/24pn or 720/30pn

I read an article that it would not do these two formats, how sad if this is true. Would it be a software upgrade to fix it.

My understanding is that 720pn will not stream over firewire.

Jeff Kilgroe April 22nd, 2006 09:43 AM

It's not that it won't stream over Firewire... It's an issue of the DVCPROHD codec, or at least that's the way I understood it. Standard frame rates for 720p DVCPROHD are 30fps and 60fps. Therefore, you can only record 24p over one of those rates via firewire (or to a DVCPROHD deck). If you want 24pn or other native rates besides 30/60, you must record to P2.

At least until the Cineporter is released, which I understand to mimic a p2 card

Yep. That's why the Cineporter connects via a P2 card slot rather than via firewire. It allows recording to HDD the same as you would record to a P2 card. So you get all the frame rate options, proper MXF files and all your metadata.
