How do you conform 60p footage 23.98?!
 

I've got a shoot tomorrow and I want to use a lot of slow-motion. How is it done?

Could someone give me a step by step analysis?

The slow-mo can be set-up a couple of ways. It just depends upon whether you might need the audio recorded for something or not. I usually opt to not record the audio because I usually wouldn't use it and/or I want to save space on the P2card.. You do this by shooting in the native mode and also this enables you to play it back in slow-mo. The other rates which record the frames and have to pulldown will not play back in slow-mo.


I think that's about it. Just experiement with the speeds.. Sometimes 60fps is too slow and also gobbles up the cards.

How do I perform the pulldown? I'm shooting directly to a harddrive, not P2 cards, so I can't use the 24pn mode (which enables me to view in-camera).

Would you be so kind and explain that to me? Please?! I'm getting nervous, my shoot starts at 9am...

If you have FCP 5 you can use Cinema Tools to conform a 60p clip to 23.98 fps. Just open CT, import the clip, click on the "conform" button and choose 23.98 fps. Your clip is now instantly slowed down to 23.98 fps, which is a 2.5x slowmotion. Works fine however your audio will also be slowed down and very goofy sounding. Understand that you will likely only use this function for slow motion MOS and you will be fine. Also, when you open the clip after conforming it will likely be displayed as a 640x360 frame size. Don't worry, just go to View/Actual size within QT and your clip will then re-display at a 1280x720 frame size.

If you are editing in a 24p over 60fps timeline, understand that you must also re-export the conformed clips to 60fps. Just File/Export within QT and choose 59.94 for the frame rate and your clip should work within a 60p timeline.
