There are so many. B&H has new Nikkors for $200 - $300
They are auto focus - but I called and found out you can set focus and f-stop manually. So they should work- yes?

yes you can set them manually, the good quality ones are more expensive. You can tell a difference though.

so in other words- I should stay away from the new

well i have some of those and they look awesome, anything is better than the stock lens.. but some of the shots you saw here were using a 50mm nikkor AF for around 150 bucks. With a better lens you will get better resolution and less distortion. by all means get the better ones if you got the cash!

I don't have my RedRockM2 yet, but I have a lot of Nikkor lenses. I think that you will find greater utility with the "faster" (wider aperture = lower f/stop #) lenses. I have pretty much every fast Nikkor prime in the current AF lineup, and many aren't particularly sharp wide open. So, you need to stop down by 1 or two stops, which will put you in the f/2 to f/2.8 range.

A Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 can be had for under $300 new, and it is noticeably sharper at f/2 than it's 50mm f/1.8 brother.

One more thing- How do I attach a Chroziel Matte box to a Nikon lens that takes 52mm filters?

On my HVX I use the 104-82 step ring- but I do not see a step ring for 52mm.

You must use two more step-up rings... I have a 82mm-58mm and then a 58mm-52mm. You might be able to find 104mm-??mm and a ??mm-52mm, but I doubt you'll find a single ring solution for 104mm-52mm. This is why I went with a rails mounted matte box... you can just use a rubber or cloth donut.

The 50mm F1.8 prime is excellent. You probably won't be dissapointed with the results.

The 24mm F2.8 is also great and about $300 new.

sharp and loud.

Well the reason it is so sharp and loud is because none of that was live... we did it all in post. Every noise you heard was recreated with the microphone pointed very close to the shoes, the cupboard door opening, and all the rest.

It took some time, but to me sound is another way of making the visual experience more enriching... because you don't just watch a movie you listen to it as well, and the audio should be as good as the visual.

I have to say that I loved the footage!

Really great considering that you created all this with whatever you had around.

And made it compelling and emotional.

Exceptional , I would say with more to come from your company I am sure!

I am curious as to what HD monitor you were using upside down
and what do you think the footage would look like with a really good HD lense.

I would think that it is important to have a great lense to get the best resolution.

And what do you think this would look like blown up?

Could this setup be used for feature film like the DVX was?
