P2 Card and 15"Powerbook Problems...

Just bought a used 1.67 15"PB for it's PCMCIA slot so I could forgo the firewire. I reinstalled the OS and maxed out the RAM. The only programs I loaded were FCPStudio, Adobe CS, P2Genie and the Panosonic CD.

The first couple of downloads were fine, then the card started freezing my system. Now, if I don't do a hard restart, the system hangs for a bit after I load the card. Sometimes it will show up, but it takes about 20-30 seconds before it will mount.

Anyone else have problems like this?

Yes, that problem has been reported before, here and on other forums. Don't know what the solution is, but try searching here and on dvxuser and on the cow, it's been talked about many times.

After "ejecting" the card you must also power it down...
Before you pull the card out, look up at the top near your
wireless and audio icons.....
A little card icon is up there as well.....
right click and power it down, then pull the card.....
PM me if you need any help....

Thanks Mike.

I never noticed that icon up there before. I was starting to think I got a defective PB or buggy P2 card (first time w/a machine w/a slot of this kind).

Much appreciated.

Brian

I am glad that was the solution.....

Brian,

Did that solution remedy your problems? No more issues after that??

Fingers Crossed

So far so good.

I was able to load a card or two before it froze. I have not had any problems since I began unmounting the card AND powering it off as Mike suggested. Having never had a PCMCIA slot before, I was unaware of this little requirement.
