Best Monitor for Editing
 

Hola,

I am editing on a MacBookPro 15" with FCP with P2 workflow.

What is the best mointor to use so I have a second monitor to watch my footage on the time line?

I have begun shooting in 720/24p on the P2 cards, and I am still wary about letterbox versus squeeze mode if any one could help with that.

Lastly, my friend told me that i would need a card to watch in true HD with my macbook pro -- si that right? If that's the case, if nothing less, I need a larger monitor for editing/viewing my footage that's compatible with my macbookpro and have NO idea as to what brand/model etc is good/best.

i know prices are going down on these so I am eager to get one soon.

If you're talking about an external NTSC monitor or TV, then you'd need the Matrox MXO to send a signal to that monitor. If you just want another Cinema Display or other computer-type flat screen you can connect one using the built-in DVI connector. Which one you use depends on what your workflow is and what your final output is going to be.

If you're final output is to DVD then you'd want the ability to see your clips downsized in real-time to an NTSC monitor; on the laptop your only option right now is the Matrox MXO. If you just want more real-estate to split up the screens in FCP and have more workspace available visually then again, any flat screen with a DVI connector will do the job. If you ask the "which one is best" question about that you'll be flooded with answers - get the one that fits your budget and your preferred size.
