Here's the workflow I used for creating a couple short test pieces.

Place the Extreme III SD Card into the Kingston MobileLite card reader, and that into the USB port. Leopard recognizes it as a drive.

Copy files to an internal drive. Open an FCP project and import footage. Choose the settings in the sequence (I used ProRes 422, 1280x720p30). Place the clips in the sequence and edit. There's an orange bar over the clips, but playback for editing is smooth.

Rendering a 5 minute piece took about 5 minutes.

Exported to non-self-contained file. Imported that into Compressor and converted to H.264. Uploaded to YouTube.


So even though the files are wrapped as AVI coming from the camera, FCS with the lastest updates has no trouble working with them.
