Dropped camera, need part but can't find it
OK, wow, dumb move on my part. Was out taking pictures, tripped and fell. It seems as though I broke the part ON the lens that actually helps hold the lens to the camera. I looked at my other longer lens and that part is actually metal. The part on the smaller lens is no other than plastic, the reason why it probably broke in the first place!
Anyone know if this can be fixed and I would like to replace it with a metal piece instead of plastic again. The lens I am wanting to get this fixed on is: AF-S NIKKOR 18-55MM To better explain the part, if you take the lens off your camera and look at it, you will notice 3 raised pieces of metal or plastic, which help hold the lens on as you turn it onto your camera body. I broke 2 of the 3. Any help? |
Re: Dropped camera, need part but can't find it
It'll have to go to a pro repair shop where they'll also check nothing has been pushed out of alignment.
I'd say they'll only replace with original parts too, for the repair warranty. But first get some quotes, if the damage turns out to be extensive, might be cheaper to get a new lens. Good luck. Cheers. |
Re: Dropped camera, need part but can't find it
You could get it fixed but they I doubt they will put a metal mount instead of the plastic one. I'd also get a few quotes as it may even be cheaper to buy a replacement - the kit lens is dirt cheap and there's usually plenty available on eBay in as-new condition.
Alternatively, you could see this as the perfect opportunity to upgrade to something better like the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (which does have a metal mount!) |
