Best Lighting Tutorial?
Any suggestions for a good DVD tutorial ( or books) on the subject of lighting for film and video. Someone suggested the book published by Lowel. Any others?

DVD called dv enlightenment. Pretty good. |
Dean Collins had an excellent series. Mostly about still photography but it's still a great resource for the how's and why's of basic as well as the most difficult lighting tasks.
If you're doing anything from models to food, cars and jewelry, this is well worth a close look. |

The book is Matters of Light & Depth" by Ross Lowell. It's a great read with excellent photos. I also appreciated Amazon.com: The Moment It Clicks: Photography secrets from one of the world's top shooters by Joe McNally: Book That's more for photography, however, just like the Ross Lowel book, it gives great examples of the "Why" in lighting. Not just the "how." |

It shows essential practical knowledge about lighting in interviews. |
there are dozens of intro to lighting dvds, but for (aspiring) pros Bill Holshevnikoff Power of Lighting Series is the gold standard. This is the guy the TV stations, Arri lighting, B&H etc go for.

Run don't walk to your local library or Amazon and read Light, Science and Magic, it is not a cookbook of lighting set-ups, however it will teach what you need to know.

I like the Boug Jensen one too
I bought the Doug Jensen one and really like it too. It does give you a great cookbook and a recommended barebones light kit. It was perfect for a total newb to lighting IMO. It also made me really want to get out and shoot interviews :) Which means it didn't suck the life out of me.

I concur on the Interview Lighting video. A good starter video for those of you doing any kind of interview work.
