Day for Night
 

I have to shoot a ton of exterior night scenes, but rigging up lights is out of the question…so I want to shoot Day for Night. What is the best way to go about this? Should I use a filter? Will the tools within Vegas Video create this effect for me? Or is the Day for Night option in Magic Bullet the best way to go? Thanks in advance.

Glenn, I'll make it even easier for you. "Day for night," use blue lighting or a blue filter.

There are some easy basic rules in doing day-for-night.
1. Use your 3200 preset, or tungsten white balance.
2. Try to shoot everything back or side-lighted.
3. Expose for the highlights, or underexpose by around 3 stops.
4. Make sure you don't see the sky, car headlights, streetlights, etc., in the shot.
5. Watch the background--if there's a building in the background the sun is hitting, it'll ruin the effect.
6. Do a test first.
