Quick Halogen Question...
 

Just curious, are most of the run-of-the-mill Halogen globes you can buy at home depot or similar store all rated at around 3200k?

sorry for wasting the space, i figured that one out on my own

I had the same question a while back so I rang a manufacturer, (Philips in this case.) 2900K was the reply.

A sheet of 1/4 CTB gel brings them up to 3200 nicely.

I made my own stands and barn doors for the lights,(painted them all black with BBQ paint so they look good) & voila! (or some other French word), a VERY cheap, effective, portable lighting kit!

i gel mine with a 1/8 ctb generally...i did find most halogens to fall around 2900 or 3000...

and nothing beats do it yourself lights! I mentioned in another post i think that to supplement my regular kit i bought a few clamp-lamps, and tossed some halogen pars in them.

i broke out AutoCad and designed some removable accesories, each with a mount on the back that attaches around the lip of the reflector of the fixture. So out of thin metal I made some filter trays, (in which go the ctbs), barn doors, and also the afore-mentioned softbox faced with 216.

and if anyone else has any other crafty ideas, do post them! =)

Could you explain the whole process from start to finish and approx. how much you paid for your do it yourself lights? I'd really like to know as I am considering to do the same due to low budget.

It costs between $150 and $200. I've only used the lights on 1 project so far, but I think that the lights made all the difference. I'm looking forward to breaking out the buckets a lot more in the months ahead.
