Anyone have advice on any of these Lighting Videos?

Been looking around for a lighting video and have so far found these 4

Digital Lighting Magic from http://www.elitevideo.com/index.asp?...ProdID=60&HS=1

Power of Lighting from http://poweroflighting.com/videos.html

DV Enlightenment from http://www.dvcreators.net/products/d...ghtenment.html

Light It Right from http://www.vasst.com/dvdproducts/Light_it_right.htm

Does anyone have any recommendations on which would be the preferred one to get, assuming I can only get one at the moment? Or even other suggestions?

Cheers
Aaron

I have seen Digital Lighting Magic and it is an excellent begining point. I learned an incredible amount and started from a place where I knew very little about lighting technique at all.

If you want to get up to speed on the basics of lighting, then you should check out DV Enlightenment. Very nicely done and shows you what can be accomplished with a DV camera and nice lighting.

Here is the review I wrote last year.

I think the Power of Lighting is the best series mentioned. It is produced by a lighting professional. I felt each video was easy to understand and full of practical information.

I saw the Digital Lighting Magic and well...maybe they would benefit from the video series mentioned previously.

Personally I just didn't think very highly of the Digital Lighting Magic.

for starters, the production values were just plain awful. The guy was drawing diagrams on the back of a cardboard box.

Almost every aspect was how to use Home Depot as your one stop Lighting kit resource.

Much of the material is repeated multiple times, or is spread out over the 3 disks in such a disjointed manner as to be almost worthless. Logical grouping of topics clearly wasn't a goal here.

Power of Lighting is great. it's 4 VHS tapes which is my only complaint about it. DVD woudl have been nicer.

Well laid out and he walks through everything in a logical progression, and everything is well explained. Very little is left unexplained.

DV Enlightenment was also well done, but very basic.

The Birns and Sawyer Lighting for Emerging Filmakers series available at the ASC Store is a don't waste your time.

very short, very basic. there are 2 discs that one presumes is a series, but part of the material from one disc is duplicated in full on the second disc. Not to mention a very boring history of the Birns and Sawyer company.

FYI, Kona Lighting in Hawaii had the best price I have seen on Power of Lighting. AS I recall, it was 100.00 for all 4 tapes.

Thanks all. I'll look into those Power of Lighting videos if I can't find anything else (yuk, VHS! :) )
