Best Battery for Coolights LED 256 with Sony mount?
 

I have been kicking around the idea of getting a battery or 2 for my 256 for those instances when I need a portable or on camera light. Just was wondering what was out there for my Sony mount light and what kind of run time people are getting with battery power. Any help would be appreciated.

Sony NP-F970 or compatible is the only one we support at the moment so go for that or a clone of it.

Pearstone makes a sony compatible battery, the NP-F975. It's a 7600mAh battery and seems to last long enough for me on my camera (Sony AX2000) and Jag35 7" monitor. They run about $80 US. For an off brand I like 'em a lot!

Thanks Bob, I have found a couple of sources online with clones and chargers for around $50 which I may try, but it would be nice to get something others can vouch for around that price. The Pearstone you mention is a definite possibility.

LA Color Shop has these batteries at a good price, I can't vouch for them personally, but they do have good customer service.

Be very careful when using a big (NP-970) sized battery on the rear of the Coollights LED 256. The way the plate is designed, a lot of the mass of the battery will be hanging off of the rear of the light. If you drop or bump the rear of the light while setting it up or breaking it down, you can rip the battery and plate off pretty easily. It works fine, but you cannot accidentally drop it or have it come tumbling down.

Let's just say that it happened to me and the end result was not pretty.

BTW, I am using a Lexar clone of the NP-970, works great.

I rarely have ever used the LED 256 continuously, I am usually switching it on and off but it seems to perhaps be a total of 2-3 hours?
