lanc recomendations for GL2
 

I am looking at the Canon ZR-1000 and the Varizoom VZ-ROCK Lanc controllers.

Any other suggestions? Recomendations?

I'm working with Libec ZC-3DV zoom control. It works just as it should, and is a bit cheaper than others.

My opinion? What ever you consider DO consider a Lanc that:

1/- Has Push Focus. This is the ability of the Lanc to momentarily "override" the Manual Focus. Great advantage.

2/- Has a Right-angled plug to go into the XM2.

3/- Has a "detachable" line so that you can "extend" the cabling. You don't see it happening? Huh, neither did I! Till I had my Xm2 some 8' in the air. And yes, I did have a separate eye level monitor.

The ZR-1000 is good. I have one. But doesn't have my 1 > 3 points above. What does have? My Manfrotto 521Pro. And a BIG clamp that will fit on rods from 12mm diam up to 35mm diam. Meaning I can also bolt it onto one of the handles on my DVRigPro. This is a monster combination.

Manfrotto 521Pro? Wouldn't leave home without it!

I'll second Grazie's endorsement of the Bogen Manfrotto 521 - I looked at all the available options and also evaluated the "feel" of the device. The 521 has a solid, professional feel. The controls are laid out very similar to the controller on most studio cameras.

Of course, this is all a very subjective personal preference. Some folks may like others.

Mike? Just to be sure it is the "PRO" that has the PUSH FOCUS feature.

I agree with grazie and the others. However, the cord does not unattach. I do believe one could make a link cord between them if one is not available.

Actually you could buy a larger cord (the 1/4 plug type) place converters on it to make it into the smaller plug.

Has anyone tried that???

I am talking about the 521Pro? - I've just pulled the cord out. It has a right-angled mini jack that pops into the body of the 521Pro. Dale?

Controls on the ZR-1000 include:
Start/stop
Zoom rocker
Zoom speed setting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and rocker variable)
Standby
On screen (display)
Rec Search (+/-)
Focus (Near/Far)
And mine has a right angle plug.
The cord is short/fixed.

Well, I guess I should have looked closer!! yes it does have a plug in, not direct line. Must have been thinking of my rode mic!!

That is actually good news.

for the rode mic I wonder if I anyone has made a 1/8 cable extension?

Lanc Remote Control
 

I use a unit made by Sign Video in Portland, Ore. It turns the GL2 on & off, has record start & standby, two sets of zoom buttons each has its own speed control so you can have two custom speeds of zoom. It cost $110-
Comes with a 6' plugable cable & 15' extension cable. There are 2 mounting plates that clamp on the tripod handle, one flat & one with a 35 degree tilt.

Good unit, works well.
