Jeff, how did your purchase go? I would like to buy a LANC for my XH-A1, and if I can save some $$, the better my bank account will feel. :)

I would love to know how it worked out for you.

Thanks!
Micky

Ive used it on 2 shoots...and it works for me. I cant compare it to the Canon, 'cause Ive never had one.
I use it mainly for the zoom function. The zoom button makes a "click" when pushed...so if you are using onboard mic it may pick up the click...

Manfrotto Best

I own the Varizoom VZ-Rock and the Manfrotto 521 Proi.
The Manfrotto has a superior smooth zoom with more features and quality build.

I've owned 6 LANC remotes of 4 different designs. For me, the two aspects of a remote's design that caused the most high frequency irritation are:
1) the ease at which the controller attaches firmly to the handle without slipping during a shoot
2) the quality of the zoom mechanism.

Sticky zoom rocker switches *can* ruin a shot.

Controllers that twist around the handle after a couple uses and require constant tightening are a pain.

In my experience, these are the the things to pay attention to and are worth paying for if necessary.

Other things that may be important to you are the ability to remove the controller without taking the mount apart (think little thumb screws and bracket parts to keep track of). Ability to perform a constant speed zoom so all you have to do is smash the rocker/button. Cable management.

yes, almost everyday. we use the xha1s, xha1, and hv40. we do over 150 productions a year for 5 years running and started with the dvx100b's then the hvx200 (yuck in low light and horrible in high def to process) and the hmc150's (yuck all the way around) but have settled on the xha1's for the life of the camera until the newer version Canon with MPEG2 4:2:2 color at 35mbs and even 50mbs i think i read. . . comes down in price. then we will get 3 of em :-)

Definitely sounds like quality stuff. I have a and the quality is top notch for the price I paid.

Do you use this with the A1?

Thanks for tip/feedback!

Whoa! All those things I would be bothered by... The less fuss the better on a news shoot. There is already so much happening at, for example, events... The more I can focus on the camera, zoom/focus, coposition and audio (to name a few) the better.

Out of the 6, what is most favorite? Any one in particular work well with the A1?

Oooh, not bad! Good price.

I imagine that would fit well on something like the Spiderbrace?

It is great to hear how much experience you have. It is neat to know that a 115$ LANC met you, and your company's, needs. :)

Thanks all! I really appreciate it!

Cheers,
Micky
