Considering leaving this industry
What the title says. It's been 13 years of a structured career path that led to experiences for me, but I'm slowly thinking I chose the wrong career path, because I remain unemployed.

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
IN THE PAST.
Manufacturers have to take note of device resources and find better ways to allocate it.
This has dragged on for way too long. I'm done with this.

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
Why? Space efficiency. The TVs only have a certain amount of flash memory for the Smart functions for it's operating system, and the demo videos.
You're speaking for yourself when you don't know a...

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
How can you actually prove that without asking the manufacturer directly? It could be a mezzanine format you export to the manufacturer is H.264 then they recompress it to fit on the flash memory...

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
Again, stupid projections and anti-FFmpeg bias with ProRes and their stupid implementation of ProRes. You decided to count FFmpeg as unprofessional and x265 as only used by pirates.
I was not...

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
I could have been watching Demo videos from consumer Demo TV sets with HEVC encoded content from LEGAL SOURCES at a Best Buy.
And just cause I don't produce that content now, doesn't invalidate...

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
It's still Main profile, not High Throughput.
High Throughput is designed for acquisition and mastering, with intra only modes and much lower compression ratios, due to the ridiculously high...

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
I'm still waiting for a encoding ASIC that supports High Throughput HEVC before taking it seriously. That's likely 2 IBCs away, likely something like XEVC from Sony.
I'm sorry, 160Mbps if it's...

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
It changes what parts of the image get less information.
In HEVC, this means low motion often doesn't even get a full set of GOP temporal frames, as it's cheating with temporal information by...

Re: Use tape based camcorder as video camera?
I think you're better off waiting until Global Shutter CMOS becomes mainstream. CCDs are a dying dinosaur, Global Shutter CMOS supports 4K and up, but the price for entry is still too prohibitive...

Re: H.265 HEVC for Canon Cinema Cameras?
"More efficient" often means "Throwing away more information."
Gradient issues with "blocky" gradients is MUCH WORSE with HEVC, to the point where I truly believe it should not be used in...

Re: Sony HXR-NX200 announced, update to NX100
These kinds of decisions mean I cannot expect anything other than 8bit 4:2:0 in my target price range from Sony. I've moved on to wait for the Panasonic Full Frame camera or getting a GH5s.

Re: Sony HXR-NX200 announced, update to NX100
The Z170 will almost certainly be 8bit 4:2:0 internal, but in the very least, in the best case scenario, they will update it to 4K 60p.
If they don't update to 4K 60p, it would be even less of an...

Re: Canon announces XF705 pro 4K camcorder
I was talking about in the same sensor size category.
The PXW-Z150 is also a 1'' sensor, but is limited to 4K 30p 8bit 4:2:0. So is the Z90V and NX80.
The Z280 is 3x 1/2'' sensors, which is a...

Re: Canon announces XF705 pro 4K camcorder
It's Canon's 1'' vs Sony's 3 1/2''... SD cards vs SxS/XQD...
You wonder why Sony doesn't just release a Z150 successor that shoots 60p to SD cards. They have to segregate 8bit 4:2:0 just to not...

Re: Canon EOS R Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera
I'm genuinely interested to see the new Panasonic FF mirrorless and if it can offer no crop. It claims to offer no crop at DCI 4K 24p/25p, but I'll have to wait and see about the actual crop factors...

Re: Shogun Flame occasionally stops recording
Definitely, a 512GB or 1TB 860 Pro is both good at sustained writes AND random writes. The random writes when data gets fragmented is what Samsung SSDs are really good at. Other SSD controllers fall...

Re: Canon EOS R Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera
Holy crap. 1.8X crop may as well be Micro 4/3rds.
Yeah, avoid this camera. Get a Nikon Z6 for Full Frame, Nikon Z7 for S35 4K supersampled, and the Fujifilm X-T3 if you want APS-C 4K 60p 10bit...
