Re: James Bond's Skyfall is yet another digitally-shot film

TDKR is still a mixture of anamorphic 35mm and IMAX. The ratio of IMAX is bigger this time. So fidelity will still change mid-sequence (which annoys me).

Re: James Bond's Skyfall is yet another digitally-shot film

When Roger Deakins says he'll probably not shoot film again.... that says something.

Re: Canon Europe announces new C300 Firmware

Give Canon's engineers a break. My god, they only just got back from NAB. They have a huge list of requests. And it is possible that we'll get multiple firmware updates over time. Anyone who...

Re: The Hobbit shooting in 48p on RED cameras

Unless we've seen the footage projected, in it's full resolution, in the correct color space, in 3D at 48fps, then this whole conversation is speculative and, quite honestly, silly.

Re: The Hobbit shooting in 48p on RED cameras

** DELETE **

Never mind. If having a contrarian opinion is insulting and demeaning to you and you somehow took it personally, I apologize.

Re: The Great Canon XL Series Revival Thread

I was using my rig exclusive for narrative work. I basically equipped it to be a cinema camera even though that wasn't it's main purpose when Canon built it. But I didn't care for the HVX at the...

I'm finally selling my beloved Canon XL-H1 camera package with both the 20X Lens and the 6x Wide Angle Lens. I am the original owner and I purchased everything new from Jim Martin at...

Re: The Great Canon XL Series Revival Thread

I'm very seriously considering selling my XL-H1 package. But I'm not sure if I'd get much out of it these days. I have the 20x and the 6x lenses. I have an external 7" monitor. I have a hard case...

Re: The Hobbit shooting in 48p on RED cameras

IMHO, 2D narrative and animation looks and feels best at 24 (plus all the technical reasons why: easiest path to PAL, 3:2 pulldown). However, 3D narrative and animation looks and feels better at...

Re: Tokina 11-16mm or Canon 10-22mm?

I very much like my Canon 10-22mm. I use it a lot more than I thought I would.

Re: 20th Century Fox announces no more film prints

I've known for a long time that film was up against the ropes. But I never realized it's sudden collapse was so imminent. I was very wrong.

Re: Videoguys Reflection of the NAB Show 2012

MacBook's are definitely safe. It's Apple's bread-n-butter Mac.

Apple is probably looking at the numbers and realizing that they don't sell very many Mac Pros. Which is sad.

When Keycode...

Re: Fujinon’s New 19-90 T2.9 Cabrio 35PL Zoom Lens with SERVO.

I was in a conversation with a friend about how difficult it is to grind good quality glass and that is why good lenses like this Fujonon costs $35,000.

My friend's response was, "Yeah, well, it's...

Re: Canon announces development of 4K digital cinema cameras, lenses

On spec I think the FS700 looks very promising. But, yes, I think it's fugly. Very. But that would be a stupid reason to ignore it or dismiss it. But I would never use the word "sexy" to describe...

Re: Canon USA introduces EOS-1D C Digital SLR camera featuring 4K

It doesn't surprise me that Canon is more expensive. They don't have the same economies of scale that Panasonic and Sony have. Compared to those mammoths, Canon is a tiny company.

I'm a huge...

Re: Fujinon’s New 19-90 T2.9 Cabrio 35PL Zoom Lens with SERVO.

To be fair, I guess, even Canon's Cinema EOS lenses are similarly priced.
