Re: How to handle AVCHD 720 60p & 1080 30p in post

Edius Neo 2.5 (or 3) is a great tool to have on a PC. It can handle AVCHD natively, quite nicely on even a low end quad-core CPU, is very stable and generally quite capable for basic editing...

Re: new camera: Panasonic AG-HPX250

Panasonic seems to go out of their way to deliver a pleasing image straight from the camera ("shooting for dailies"), while Sony leans a bit more toward delivering an image better suited for post...

Re: new camera: Panasonic AG-HPX250

I know that at least part of the difference in "look" between the NX5, and the current Panasonic AVCHD HMC150 and HMC40, at default settings, is greater edge enhancement with the Panny models. Crank...

Re: new camera: Panasonic AG-HPX250

I'll take an butt ugly camera that yields stunning images, over a gorgeous paper weight, any day of the week.

Re: The five years between cameras

The FX1 was certainly a ground breaker, and delivered the crispest images you could get out of a camcorder anywhere near it's price point, when it was introduced, and is/was a very good camera - a...

Re: new camera: Panasonic AG-HPX250

The AC130 will have the same imaging chips as the AC160. The only real differences between the 130 and 160 look to be SDI and uncompressed audio recording with the 160 - and of course, the price tag....

Re: new camera: Panasonic AG-HPX250

Seems to me the new camera with the most sales potential is the AG-AC130. From what I gathered, reading the press release, it's essentially a 1/3" chip version of a souped-up HMC40 (a tiny beast,...

Am I missing something, or does the XA10 indeed lack the ability to record 720p60? That's a deal-breaker for me.

To say that 720p60 is lower resolution video than 1080p30, is essentially incorrect (although technically true). Both 1280x720p60 and 1920x1080p30 provide pretty close to the same number of image...

Open source is not the same as freeware. Am I understanding correctly, that Lightworks will be freeware as well as open source software? How will it be licensed? (BSD or MIT perhaps?)

I'd strongly suggest you consider an HMC40. Shooting outside (ample lighting) the image quality you can get from an HMC40 is right on par with what you can get with the Sony AX2000 & NX5U cams, and...

Personally, I sure wouldn't want to be fiddling around with a DSLR, for shooting wedding video, but I guess a lot of folks do it. From what I understand, you'll get a (notably) softer image from the...

If you want maximum performance per dollar, build a system around AMD's 1090t (3.2GHz Phenom II X6). 1090t performance is very comparable to i7 950 performance (basically a wash), and the 1090t only...

I'll echo Chris from earlier in this thread. Video that's been (highly) compressed by YouTube (or Vimeo) is simply not going to tell you much (if anything) about how sharp an image you can expect to...

I was thinking of the SD9. I don't know if it uses the same block as the 70 or not, but it was pretty weak in dim lighting.

I don't know that auto focus with the HMC40 works any better or any worse than standard auto-focus on another HD camcorder. Auto focus pretty much sucks, like with any other non-Canon HD camcorder,...
