Re: Simple Ninja 2 question - Can you help please?

In a data based world, backing up files is a matter of just copying media from one form of drive/card to another drive/card.

If you are recording to SD card, just use Shotput Pro or another backup...

Re: Camera upgrade. 1080p or 4K

The reason to go 4K is VP9 and HEVC (h.265) encoding.

Basically these two codecs take a 4K video and stream it at the same bitrate that h.264 currently streams 1920x1080 with substantially better...

Re: fcp7+stills ="error out of memory"- on i7 imac/12gb/w/1024mb graphics card? - no

FCP is a 32bit program so can't address more than 3gb of memory at a time, so that's part of the problem. Once you stack very high resolution images on a timeline this quickly becomes a problem. I...

Re: Cold e-mailing Resume/Reels to Production Companies

Working at a production company we get cold emails all the time. If the person is emailing us directly, has bothered to try and understand the sort of work we do, and has a reel/background of...

Re: Hi from NZ

We don't have in house voice talent, as clients usually pick or provide from one of the voice talent aencies. Some VO guys have their own recording setup for such purposes, but not many (as most...

Re: Need Help and clairty

The specs that the broadcast company give you have nothing to do with your camera in this instance, and everything to do with what you need to supply them.

You can shoot the footage in any format...

Re: Doc writing, a story without drama ...

For a 60-90 minute doc you need a much stronger narrative than sy a 24 minute promotional video, irrespective of audience.

Re: Doc writing, a story without drama ...

That's not a bad angle. I think it might get a little dull at 30-60 minutes, even to the core audience. I'd see how much you can cover in say 24 minutes (6 minutes per day) that'd be enough for...

Re: Live capture no editing

I'll be honest and say for your purposes, at your price level, you probably have found the best solution possible, because capture devices with HDMI or greater inputs tend to be far more expensive,...

Re: Doc writing, a story without drama ...

Drama always hinges on jeopardy and conflict. This does not necessarily you need to create false conflict between people - video games and sport inherently have conflict in them (players trying to...

Actually free music, in so far that it costs nothing to use and only requires a credit, seems to be available here:

Re: Big issue... FCP X only outputting uncompressed &

Mathieu the thing is as long as FCPX is recompressing the media it is NEVER going to be faster than FCP7 was at exporting a self contained quicktime of a rendered/cuts only edit, because they both...

Re: Big issue... FCP X only outputting uncompressed &

This just comes down to FCP7 being a very mature NLE with a lot of very clever workflow options due to quicktime integration, that allowed you to do things that other NLE's just couldn't. If you have...

Re: Big issue... FCP X only outputting uncompressed &

This makes some sense, seeing as FCPX is a move away from the older Quicktime architecture which was the primary source of FCP's capability to simply restitch cuts only renders. Although it would be...

Re: Ay experience with Disk Warrior?

Disk Warrior repairs the directory structure and is almost a must have utility. It is very reliable option for issues where you have directory errors that Disk Utility can't fix.

Re: Red Epic / FCP7 / Aspect Ratio Question

This will be because the red footage wasn't shot 16:9, but likely 2:1 or some other aspect ratio. What is your delivery, if it is 16:9 then you will be best to just blow up the footage and crop the...

Re: Is there any reason not to get a refurb MacPro vs. new iMac?

Re: FCP won't add font

The basic FCP text editor has a number of issues, the boris 3D text video generator is a much more flexible texr editor that accesses fonts in a different way that can let you use it natively.

Re: HP Debuts an All-in-One 27" Xeon-based Workstation

Harm, I disagree, the thing that speaks to me about this is the design. All in one design that is user servicable is a very strong proposition for on set work from a design point of view, as it's...
