Re: Shot my first wedding in almost 15 years

Impressively shot and assembled, especially for a solo shooter. Rusty or not, you still weave a good story with clean audio and solid shots. I went down the same route as you did, preferring the...

Re: Tascam dr-10l pro doubt

I'm not mounting mine to the camera, but you should have more luck with using a microphone shock mount to hold the shotgun mic to the cold shoe slot, like most of the on-camera mini shotguns are...

Re: 38 Questions with University President

That was very cute and creative. Nicely done overall. I'm guessing he had all the questions in advance, but I'm still surprised he was able to reach out to Jennifer Garner on a lark.

Re: Wedding videographer sticks a SpaceX type vertical rocket landing

Wow. That's a great combination of talent, inspiration, perspiration and perseverance. I'm hoping that SpaceX or NASA signs him up for whatever he'd like to do.

Re: Monopod to shoot over crowd?

Depending on your camera and budget, here's what I'd do with the FX3: Mount it to a gimbal, Mount that gimbal to a monopod, That should already put you near 7 feet, assuming a 6' reach on the monopod...

Re: Improving my camera rig....addressing long-term power

If you go the v-mount route, you'll need to add rails and a power-distro v-mount plate like this...

Re: COB lights attracting moths

If you're using it bare, you can try a scrim which will intercept the critters before they hit your COB...but that will cut your output. There are also honeycomb grids that work with bowens-mount...

Re: FX6: 120 fps with Sony 200-600mm lens at Cape Ann, MA

Lovely footage, Doug. That's a sharp lens indeed. I'm guessing haze plays a big role when you're fully zoomed in, which makes those shots all the more impressive. You did get a salty look straight to...

Re: I have a question about using sandbags as weights.

Have you considered canopy weights for use in pop-up gazebos? They are shaped like elongated tubes that are meant to be wrapped around the legs (vs. draped over them), and include a velcro strap that...

Re: Paranormal Investigation group producing a webseries

I just watched Haunted Liberty Theater, and I've got to say that the biggest stand out to me is the interviews. This is going to be a bit critical, so apologies if it comes across as harsh. The...

Re: Florida Scrub Jays - shot with Sony FX6

Lovely piece, Doug. Out of curiosity, would eye-focus work on birds? Was any of this shot with autofocus enabled?

Re: Impressive One Shot Music Video

From what I've experienced, dancing plus singing in music videos is 99.9% overdubbed. You would hear a warble in the voice any time a person jumps...and getting short of breath is not conducive to a...

Re: ORTF symphony recording

Sounds great John...with my Sony headphones. Clean and warm sound, perhaps just a tad lacking in the high frequencies. Then again, my ears aren't as young as my brain would lead me to believe.

Re: ORTF symphony recording

I would try again using a private browser...or if you have access to VPN, you can 'choose' the country of IP origin (I believe).

Value alternative to Aputure 300d

Like many of you, I've been watching the progression of high-power (200w+) LED COB lights avidly. At first, the available instruments came in two categories: expensive and mostly color accurate, or...

Re: 55w LED fresnel vs. Dedo vs. 300w tungsten

Thanks for the feedback Paul. I completely understand about the lack of pricing info, and that was deliberate on my part. I've done reviews before that get watched years later (when prices change)....

Re: 55w LED fresnel vs. Dedo vs. 300w tungsten

Thank you, Pete. It's likely I won't ever use the strobe function. I can imagine it could be useful for music videos...and that's about it. Not sure why CAME-TV spent good time and money on the light...

55w LED fresnel vs. Dedo vs. 300w tungsten

I put together a review for the Boltzen Q55II, which is an upgrade to the Mark I I've been using for a while now. Having looked at the Fiilex units and being underwhelmed by their output (and...

Re: A led light for Lumix GH5?

I'd suggest looking at some online reviews, like this one. Most people own a single or maybe 2 of these lights, so it's hard to compare them to other offerings. There are so many to choose from, and...

Re: Help choosing an inexpensive digital camcorder.

Two questions
1) Why do you need a remote?
2) Are you planning on editing your footage?

If you can stretch your budget a bit, Sony and Canon have offerings in their Handycam and Vixia line....

Re: a documentary about an internet troll

Interesting trailer. It's a good tease that leaves me wanting to know more about this character. He sounds like he'll end up in Federal prison...and I'm guessing that will be the end of his trolling...

Re: Shopping for on camera light

I think you'll be very happy with the Aputure AL-M9 or updated AL-MX. https://www.aputure.com/products/al-mx-1

It's bright, variable color, uses the NP-F batteries and is very color accurate. I'm...

Re: 4K camera suggestions for LED lighting / theatre work?

That sounds like a fantastic feature, Doug. Would you have any examples of how it looks with the feature turned on and off with a super-saturated LED/RGB source?
Is this something Sony could change...
