Re: experimenting with editing

I use DaVinci Resolve now and it is also certainly worth a look.

Had FCP 7 but like many others didn't go to FCP X when it came out.

Re: Youtube wrecking standard definition edit

Good to hear you got it sorted and I still do most things at 720p as it seems a very efficient compromise.

My Sony DVD does up-res to 1080p but you can see it struggling at times and 720p seems to...

Re: Youtube wrecking standard definition edit

Haven't done much video wise for the past few years but I seem to recall that the optimum for upload was 720p.

Also SD has a different structure and it may well be better to render it to HD so...

Re: MTS to MP4 converter and portable camcorder monitor questions

I have an HF11 and use edit ready to do my transcoding. some edit software can do the transcoding too and I used final cut pro in the past but also use DaVinci.

Not free but very good.

I also...

Re: Anyone still miss the jog shuttle control? - Premiere Pro

Interesting that the edit controller used in EVS for live sport etc tends to be more retro and I hear them using old jargon too for marking ins and outs.

Always amazed at the technology though as...

Re: Old Timers Role Call - WEVA Event DV

Well I am 62 now so suppose that may count as an old timer.

Still in the TV industry tho after 43 years of fun and filming plus at the BBC in Manchester now so only 130 miles from home!

Re: Moving to XDCAM HD

As you say this older kit can be had for bargain prices and it still shoots full HD so is still perfect for most jobs.

I personally still use my trusty Panasonic HPX-371 P2 cameras and picked up a...

Re: Help me choose the right path please.

I use Veho Muvi K2 go pro type cameras for doing videos on my boat and the 4k version gives some pretty good HD pictures for other projects that fit in with my two Panasonic HPX P2 cameras. I also...

Re: Slot in Wireless Mic Receiver - Channel 70

No I didn't power the G2 receivers but a good idea if you can do it as they will draw very little as you say.

I just use AA on mine.

I did also think of installing a couple of XLR sockets on...

Re: Shotguns - what exactly are the differences?

Ha ha and you never pointed them at members of the Royal Family when on the News rota.

One guy did and he was floored and the 816 mic blimp ripped apart.

Now this is a gun mic or more like a...

Re: Shotguns - what exactly are the differences?

Very interesting Paul and thanks for your in depth analysis.

I have used a lot of these phase cancellation mics over the years and pretty much all the location drama and doco dialogue I have...

Re: Recording Bluetooth Audio w/ Video

I would doubt very much if any of the audio is frame accurate but there are a lot of people on platforms like Yoo Toob that would probably not even notice any difference.

Bluetooth can also induce...

Re: Slot in Wireless Mic Receiver - Channel 70

As others have said the cost of these receivers are quite high so I have never invested in one and don't thin k I have seen a ch70 one either.

What I did do on my Panasonic P2 camera is wire the...

Re: Live Stream Audio Help

No he didn't mention PA but the same audio principle applies of too much dynamic range.

I work in pro broadcast and probably 10db dynamic range is all you tend to need for most things and I have...

Re: Live Stream Audio Help

This is quite a common problem when trying to use a PA feed for broadcast or webcasting as the dynamic range can be just too much.

The main problem is that you are mixing to suit the PA and as...

Re: Just got an HPX300

Ha ha and here I am in 2020 and have just bought another HPX371 as it was as new and going very reasonable at £1400.

Still love this camera and it works great in the pandemic of producing on-line...

Re: How come directors never give storyboards to the audio department?

In 40 years of TV and Film production I have never used or seen a storyboard and they are for editing and visual structure so will not include specifics about locations or ceiling height etc.

You...

Re: Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones..nice!

They now do a bluetooth version that you can also use with a supplied cable so you get the best of both worlds.

I used the headset with mic version for commentators during the 2014 commonwealth...

Re: I have a question about converting 48 khz to 48.048 khz.

Potentially yes but pull down and pull up sample rate has always been there since the advent of digital.

Editors liked working with a 30fps timeline so pull down and pull up sample rates were...

Re: Budget headphones?

I guess sadly the V170 is no longer available too which is a shame as they have the stronger magnets and sound far superior to the V150.

As for on ear they are so light that it is far more...

Re: Budget headphones?

Must admit that I have gone off the 7506 and V6 that I have used since the late 80's and now gone to sennheiser 380 or MD25 for my critical monitoring.

Those Polsen look like a clone of the MDR...
