Re: Panasonic 4K Super 35mm Varicam at NAB?
There doesn't seem to be any doubt that the large sensor cameras will dominate the higher end productions, if they aren't already. Can you imagine any major production company shooting a theatrical...

Re: Panasonic 4K Super 35mm Varicam at NAB?
I suppose Panasonic can have two distinctly different Varicam designs: the 2/3" and large sensor variety. After all, they have two now, the 2700 and the 3700, even though they're very similar.

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
Well said, Ken. This camera may very well be my first entry into 4K video. I think it will be a big seller for Sony.

Re: Panasonic 4K Super 35mm Varicam at NAB?
Oh, I'm sure Panasonic will have the 4K Varicam on display. Now, whether it will be a true production model, or them just pulling out the same mock-up from the past two years is another matter. Much...

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
Michael, do you think the AX100 will be a good enough tool for you to shoot 4K, then deliver 1080p to your clients? I sure hope so, I'd love to shoot 4k.

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
Ken, I agree with this. 4K and 3D are two different animals. 4K is the natural progression of HD: more resolution, better color. It makes sense to go in this direction.
To those who doubt 4K will...

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
I was under the impression the PMW300 could not do 1080/50-60P, even with the XAVC ungrade. I don't remember why that is.
But there are other 1080/50-60P cameras out there: the F5/55, the Z100,...

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
Sooo....
Who has considered getting a Z100 or AX1, but are now holding back until the AX100 arrives?
$2,000 is quite a selling point.

Re: JVC 4K camera
I would think so. It's been proven that a single SDHC card can record 4K video. The PX100 uses single SDHC cards, if they stick with the same body design.
If it needs 4 SDHC cards, this camera is...

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
That's the peculiar part: Sony seems to have put the better, bigger sensor in their consumer 4K cam, compared to their prosumer 4K cams. I definitely prefer a 1" sensor over a 1/2" sensor. I'll...

So that'd be three 4K consumer cams coming out soon, although we don't know when JVC will release its camera.
Canon, are you listening?

"Price is so low?" It's their 3rd highest priced consumer camera, behind the VG series.
And I don't see much distortion, although I don't have a 4K monitor to view the footage. The footage looks...

JVC 4K camera
How'd we miss this? JVC's version of a consumer 4K camera.
This is the PX100 with the firmware allowing 4K capture. It's obviously a prototype, but the real one will sell for less than $2,000. The...

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
F9.3 could be real. The sensor is very densely packed with pixels to achieve 4K. As a general rule, the more pixels you cram into a sensor's given area, the less sensitive the sensor becomes.
I...

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
The NX70 had a bad power zoom control. I believe this was corrected in later models.
How is the zoom control on the AX100? Most consumer cams have lousy zoom control.

Re: Sony FDR-AX100
Here's a scenario where I can see the AX100 being a great tool:
1. You're payed to record a school or community function, like a play or orchestra. You set the AX100 far enough to get a wide shot...
