Re: Huge frustrations in Final Cut Pro

Don't use any 1080 "HDV" setting for sequence or export because it will be compressed to 1440x1080 and not square-pixel 1920x1080 as your AVCHD camcorder records.

Re: Sony TD10 3D camera editing suggestions

The recording medium is irrelevant. I'm not sure if the Sony TD10 has an option to record a simple side-by-side in AVCHD, but if it doesn't then it seems only Sony Vegas is currently supporting...

Re: What do You guys do about polarization?

The 45° mirror itself has a polarization effect on the light, therefore the intent is to nullify the polarization effect.
A 1/4 waveplate combined with the glass may help with this in most...

Re: Sony TD10 3D camera editing suggestions

I don't think any 3rd party software can deal with demux of MVC yet. I just sent David Newman an email and notified him of this thread so maybe he can shed some light on it.

When the consumer...

Re: Sony TD10 3D camera editing suggestions

Bruce, can you please shoot a very short clip and send it to me for analysis. I don't have one of these cameras yet but I assume they are using MVC, which we don't have a means to demux yet.

The...

Re: Nice mirror box - anybody tried?

This was a very old thread and I can attest to the fact that Alister's Hurricane rig now has excellent quality beamsplitter glass sourced out of Europe.

Re: 3D Mirror Rig any good?

Thanks for stopping by Karl. I met your director of stereo Keith at NAB and I am very interested to see the new stuff coming out of 3D Film Factory.
I too agree that there is a rig for every job. ...

Re: $100 DIY Beamsplitter Rig

You could do it the "safe" way and use a Pocketwizard on each camera and one to trigger (3 x $170) or go with the cheaper version (2x$40)

Or you could make your own double N3 wire and DPDT switch...

Re: $100 DIY Beamsplitter Rig

Pavel and Jesse,

For syncing on the Canon DSLRs it is important that the shutters are perfectly in sync for motion or you will always have a tiny bit of temporal disparity. I have also heard of...

Re: What do You guys do about polarization?

I will typically try to avoid angles with surfaces that have reflections and will be affected by polarization. This can be as simple as moving a shiny prop or using some dulling spray. However...

Re: Flipped camera compounds rolling shutter?

Thanks for confirming things work as expected David. We do a lot of fast action stunt work so we need perfect shutter sync. I'm placing an order this week.

Re: Flipped camera compounds rolling shutter?

Can anyone confirm that the shutters are actually synchronized? My understanding after NAB was that the sync cable not only synched menu items and start/stop but also the genlock/shutters. However,...

Re: Bad Anaglyph good Side by Side view

Also, the more parallax separation you have the more ghosting you will see. The best anaglyphs typically only have maximum 1% of screen width positive and/or negative parallax. I just glanced at...

Re: Canon XF105's and Zoom Axis Shift

The phase can be adjusted in the genlock menu. Of course you won't know if the signal is in phase without outputting on screen characters.

Re: Viewing m2t files before going into FCP

If you just want to view dailies then MpegStreamclip or VLC will work with m2t. ClipWrap is the best and fastest solutions for wrapping m2t in Quicktime so you can edit as HDV in FCP.

Re: Sony 3D Camcorder rears it's head again

I've seen this in a glass display case twice since IBC. From the looks of it the interaxial is about the same as the 3DA1... maybe even bigger. This is a full-size pro camcorder so the scale makes...
