Re: Nikon Technical Service Advisory for D600

Other than the issue with oil spots (which has been exaggerated quite a bit) what issues are you referring to? I've been shooting with a D600 as my primary video camera since December 2012 with zero...

Re: Nikon at nab 2014

I shoot with a D600 and have to agree - the images (and color) are fantastic! My clients don't care what name is on the camera - they only care about great video. From a functionality standpoint,...

Re: Anyone tried one of these...

This looks like a great idea, our DSLR uses SD cards and I would prefer to have a common stockpile. Please let me know if you try one, and if it fits inside the MRC1?

Re: Z5 focus issues - advice?

Thanks for the advice guys. Factory reset and leaving a charged battery on the camera are both great tips. Unfortunately I do need manual focus because at many events there are audience heads in the...

Z5 focus issues - advice?

I seldom use my 2010 Z5U since we began shooting with a DSLR rig in 2013, but it has very low hours and I still use it to record long format meetings and "run and gun" events. In March at a dinner...

Re: GPU question - Quadro or GTX?

Regarding the PSU - I replaced the OEM Dell PSU in my Studio XPS with a standard issue Corsair 600w model without any problems whatsoever, so I'm hopeful the same will be true for the 8700.

Re: GPU question - Quadro or GTX?

Well it's a good thing I've not ordered the card yet - I was going to see how the system works with my existing GTX 650 first.

Re: GPU question - Quadro or GTX?

Harm - thanks for your wisdom. You cleared up some of the vague aspects of GPU computing.

I'm moving forwards with a Core i7-4770 Dell XPS. I got a cheaper config knowing that I will add my own...

GPU question - Quadro or GTX?

Graphics card advise, please.

I am upgrading my editing PC from a first-gen Core i7-920 to a fourth-gen Core i7-4770 with 16GB ram. I'll continue to use Windows 7 and Vegas Pro 11/Boris Continuum...

Re: Nikon D610

All video cameras suffer from some level of aliasing, moiré and flicker. It's the nature of the beast. We've always used tools like shutter speed and frame rate to overcome these challenges...

Re: anyone using the 7100 for video?

For internal recording, the Nikon D-movie cameras (D800, D600, D7100 and D610) compress video to make H.264/MPEG-4 files with a maximum bitrate of 24mbs (4:2:0 color space). The files look very...

Nikon Technical Service Advisory for D600

On Wednesday I received an email from Nikon offering a sensor cleaning service and/or replacement (if needed) of the shutter mechanism on my D600.

I know there's a bit of dust on my sensor - I...

Re: Lilliput Monitor *IPS LED, 720P, 7in* $300-660

The D600 does have a control "ring" around the OK/select button that turns on/off histogram and other features. I'll try that - thanks!

Re: Lilliput Monitor *IPS LED, 720P, 7in* $300-660

Based on the positive reviews here (and a good price) I just picked up a Lilliput 663/o for shooting with my Nikon D600 and Sony Z5U.

A question for those who have some experience - the image...

Re: Sprucing up the ol' PC for GPU action

Thanks Jeff, I'm now thinking its better to invest in more RAM (or a new PC) than a video card and PSU.

Re: Is the D600 a great videocamera or should i go for D800?

That doesn't look like dust - it has a pattern to it. Dust would be truly random specks. That looks like moisture or residue left behind from something wet?

Re: Sprucing up the ol' PC for GPU action

That information is very helpful - thanks!

Re: Sprucing up the ol' PC for GPU action

I guess it was a statement, sometimes I get excited by progress.

Leslie, I chose the new graphics card with a price target in mind (around US$150), knowing it had to be compatible with Vegas's GPU...

Sprucing up the ol' PC for GPU action

After 6 months of distraction with many projects, I'm finally upgrading my aging Core i7 XPS Studio 435MT with a new monitor (HP 2311xi), faster memory (12GB), a new 600W PSU, and a video card that...

Re: lugging your gear

I'm fairly budget-minded when it comes to investing hard-earned dollars into cases for my gear, but I've found a few "bargain items" enhance the more expensive solutions.

First, I'm a die-hard fan...

Re: Is the D600 a great videocamera or should i go for D800?

Yes, the D600 is a great videocamera. I'm reminded of this everytime I pick it up and shoot. I've had the camera for two months now, and the buttons and menus are becoming second nature to me.

I...

Re: Is the D600 a great videocamera or should i go for D800?

The cost of SDHC cards seems to be dropping every day. I just picked up some 32GB Sandisk cards for about $34 each. That's cheap enough to use as shelf storage for each project!

I'd say "so...

Re: 29 Minute Max Recording Time.

FWIW, I have a Sony Z5U (the HDV tape/MRC-1 version of the NX5U) as my primary camera, and a Nikon D600 as my secondary camera. My wife has a D5100, and the 24MP sensor takes BEAUTIFUL photos. It...

Re: Best video codecs for Vegas (11 Pro)?

Actually I have no idea - I'm primarily looking at the external recorder for my Sony HDV camera. It's got good sensors and a good lens, the only thing holding it back is the HDV encode (internal).
