Re: Converting 60p to 24p without slowing footage

well, the saving private Ryan look is thanks to faster shutter speed, not faster frame rates.

But I understand the question, the 60p look feels more artificial than 25 or 24p

I am actually...

Re: Low Apertures and ND Filters

i agree it looks choppy to increase shutter speed, but in a pinch it's far better than the moire problem that is amplified 10X when stopping down.

ND filters are definitely preferable but stopping...

I just got a Samyang 14 that I used on a merlin for the first time today (both first time)

I gotta say, I am super happy with that Samyang..so sharp, distortion doesn't go crazy really cool...

Re: 5D or 7D - overheat factor-

i've used both the 5 and 7, unless you want to use the slow motion, there is no reason not to choose the 5d

Re: Rode Videomic on 7D?

key to getting good audio is getting a mic in the best possible position, I use the RVM on the 7d and it's great, for walk around, pick up someone saying something.
But i only use it for reference...

Re: Another lens for 60d

I think a normal lens is the most important one in the kit and that sits around 30mm or so.
Wide is fine, but it distortion becomes noticeable
with a normal lens, you can back up for wides, scoot...

Re: Another lens for 60d

I have the Tamron that you have and the canon 70-200 which takes really nice portrait shots IMO

Primes I am looking at are the Sigma 30, I know the Canon 28 has better reviews, but isn't it made...

Re: 600D tips for newbie

keep native ISO's for the least noise, like 160, 320, 640 and so on, only go above if absolutely necessary as lower ISO's will have the least noise.

as for exposing, with these cameras you can...

Re: 7D 1.2.5 firmware back now on USA site

exactly, histogram and manual sound is about all that would keep me from jumping ship from canon and moving over to their competitors

Re: 7D 1.2.5 firmware back now on USA site

Aloha!

I am running on version 1.1.0 if I update to 1.3 does it autmatically upgrade 1.2?

Re: Good video lens for my 7D?

wait a second there, the 16-35 is a crazy wide lens for the 5d, although the field of view will be narrower for your cropped sensor, you will still have the same characteristics of a wide angle lens...

Re: Macro Lens

cool, looks like you had a lot of light to work with...gave you some extra DOF
have you tried it in any low light situations yet?

Re: Firmware 1.2.5 mainly for CF card errors & "Err 02"

I'm actually pretty pissed. tons of cheaper models flooded the market with much better tools for filming .

Give me a live histogram and audio controls and i'm satisfied!

until then, I am...

Re: Good video lens for my 7D?

I think a 17-50 is probably the best multi purpose zoom for the cropped sensors
17 is wide, 30 is about normal, 50 is nice for portraits.
24-70 is the call for the full sensor cams.

Re: Non-IS lenses?

IMO, the difference in price is so great that you could invest in stabilization instead, like a solid shoulder rig (takes out the micro shake that alone...useful on lenses up to about 70 on a APSC...

Re: Tokina 12-24mm f/4?

I disagree, I think DSRL's are better than video cameras for weddings, for many reasons

Low light.
More flattering images of bride and groom
More feel, emotion.

They are more difficult, but I...

Re: Video shot with Canon 60D

Hey John, sorry, I forgot to mention I had a 1x converter, in other words an additional 100mm, so I was shooting at 300 which is more like 480mm, that stopped the camera down to 5.6 as well.
I...

Re: 60d on a monopod or tripod

I use a simple shoulder rig, seriously, just screw the camera on the top, two handles and a little length to rest on the shoulder, could be a 2 x 4, but I have the Glidetrack. Use it more as a...
