Re: G6 Viewfinder problem

I haven't seen a G6 so I have no idea what the EVF is like, but going from GH2s to a pair of GH3s it looks like Panasonic made the optics in the EVF smaller. Focus is harder to see even if you get...

Re: ND filter...about to jump

The "incidents" I've read several months ago had nothing to do with "being a little over picky" about image quality. The posters were complaining about very noticeable effects in the editing bay...

Re: ND filter...about to jump

Tiffens are fine in single strengths, Shane Hurlbut uses Tiffens. Variables are...variable. The softening (or lack of detail/sharpness) is most problematic at the telephoto end of zooms.

You...

Panasonic GH3 Very Low Shutter Count

Selling my backup GH3, ordered it for use on a multiple camera project that never got started. Shutter count is 128 I just didn't use it much, it's in almost brand new condition with no blemishes...

Re: Olympus 12-40 on a GH3?

If you have enough lighting contrast for autofocus to work well, rack focus is pretty easy with "touch focus" enabled. The 12-35 should work well with this as well as most Olympus m4/3 lenses.

Re: VERY Inexpensive Camera Cages!

The only cage "tailored" to anything on that site is the FHugen Honu cage for the GH3. I have one and it's pretty good with the GH3 as it should be, however I'll mostly be using the GB1 even with...

Re: Tales of Wonders and Woes - Charity challenge 2013

It did go well, Doc had a clinic here in San Angelo today and was pleased with how the healing is going. I had 20/50 in that eye (on a good well lit day) before the surgery, today it tested out at...

Re: VERY Inexpensive Camera Cages!

Since I use the Manfrotto 577 quick release system compatible with the 501 and 701 heads (everything uses the 501PL camera plates) a Hoodman Hoodloupe with 3x eyepiece fits easily on the back with no...

VERY Inexpensive Camera Cages!

I was NOT inclined to go this route. I like keeping things simple, light weight, and minimalist! Besides which most "rigs" and cages were quite expensive. But when I saw the pictures, videos, and...

Re: Tales of Wonders and Woes - Charity challenge 2013

Thanks, Trond.

It was done this morning 1-6-2014. Up early at 4:30AM, Daughter drove me 90mi. to Abilene (no retina specialist here in San Angelo for an 8:00AM appt. 1 hour of prep, 1 hour of...

Re: Olympus 45mm f/1.8 vs Voigtlander 42.5mm f/0.95 vs Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.2

I went for the Olympus 45mm f1.8 without comparing with anything (Except a Nikkor AI-S 50mm f1.8 which came nowhere near the Oly in IQ). Sample images from a number of early adopters convinced me it...

Re: Olympus 75mm f/1.8 vs Rokinon 85mm f/1.4

I tried to get around the high cost of the Oly by ordering a very lightly used Rokinon, the cine version with geared rings and declicked aperture. The standard version max aperture is marked f/1.4...

Re: Tales of Wonders and Woes - Charity challenge 2013

Doesn't look good for me to finish an entry on this one. Scheduled for another round of eye surgery, retina this time. Google "retina peel" for a few videos if you're not too faint of heart.

Re: Crop Factor

Dennis,

You'll find that to be an excellent choice. If you use it as we had to use the "shifty fifty" in the 1950's on until zooms became popular, you should find it to be one exceptionally...

Re: Fast long lens with IS?

I've never depended on IS, I've been using SLR's with 135mm to 210mm lenses (then Canon with up to 250 - a bout a 400mm equivalent) and learned different stabilization methods with bracing and such...

Re: Canon HF100 AVCHD

This is a great cam at a very reasonable price for what it will do. I bought a pair of them back in 2008 and still have one left (gave the other to my son). I still grab the one I have and put it...

Re: Sign Up - 6th Annual DVC/UWOL Charity Challenge!

(GASP!)

Looks I just got "shanghai'd"....Don't know as I'd qualify as a "warm body", just got in from photographing Christmas lights and we've got a cold front hasn't left yet.

Fingers still...

Re: Panasonic lumix g6, wow

I haven't had a chance to really "wring it out" yet. But quick and crude handheld and walking tests are very encouraging. I plan to use it mainly for shots where I have to have the camera in motion...

Re: Panasonic lumix g6, wow

Nigel,

I wrote this a week or so ago.

Last night I shot a test with the 20mm on the OMD at ISO 12,800 just to see how visible any banding might be. In a badly underexposed portion of wall...

Re: Panasonic lumix g6, wow

No...But it is CRAZY sharp and has beautiful image tones. I tried to avoid the cost of it by buying a Rokinon 85mm T1.5 Cine lens, the Rokinon was OK - I did like it - but I wound up selling it and...

Re: Panasonic lumix g6, wow

This is what I've read on other forums when the E-M5 first came out. You've just "nailed it" for me as I found a well cared for body with 736 shutter actuations on another forum for a price I felt...
