Re: Question about Firewire Storage

Hi Noa

I looked up the Pinnacle unit out of curiosity. My guess is that it isn't a hub - it's more of an almost mini computer - there's probably some logic inside to read from FW into a buffer and...

Re: Multitrack audio and 7 cam live nightmare

Been there, done that. I wanted to rant too. Didn't come up with any clever solutions except to just put my head down and slog for a week or so.

Good luck!

Re: Piano audio - raising the bar

Glad it all worked out. Piano is one of the hardest because everything depends on everything else. And the instrument is large enough to present a whole different set of challenges,

My wife used...

Re: Piano audio - raising the bar

Maybe it's just me but...

I personally don't like to get too close to the piano with the mics because I always hear too much hammer/action sound which I find distracting, as well as too much...

Re: Looking for Tripod around $500

I sometimes think that ANYTHING affordable is terrible for pan and tilt!!! I have a Manfrotto 516 on Libec legs and it's - OK. Not marvelous, but - well, OK. Usable for what I do. More than good...

Re: Looking for Tripod around $500

Have you thought of a monopod? The Manfrotto I have puts the camera well above my eye level and I'm 6'2" - and it's close to your $ number if I remember correctly. I quite like it particularly if I'm...

Re: Canon Lens Communication Error 01

I think I have my 10-22 on the C100 at least half the time. Wonderful indoors (would be better if it were faster but the C100 is really good in low light)

Hope I don't have any issues with it!!!...

Re: C100 MkII Mechanical issues

One of my engineering friends mentioned that now that we've removed lead from all our electronics, we're more susceptible to the growth of tiny metallic whiskers that can lead to shorts. No idea if...

Re: 2.4 GHz wireless mics

+1 for System 10. I had a custom cable made up by Markertek so I can set my mics and SD 702 up near the stage and feed the System 10 from the 702 Tape Out to get a mono sync track in the balcony...

Re: Jitter/Stutter when panning w/ BMPCC

I think the pan is a bit too speedy over and above the dropped frame issue. Kept wanting to grab it and slow it down by about 50%. Just my opinion.

Re: Happy Pi Day

Or we could use a system like Japan where the official year is 平成二十八年 or the 28th year of the Heisei era. And it will start counting from 1 again when the next emperor assumes the throne and chooses...

Re: SD702, or PCM-D50 + Mixpre?

I use a 702 and love it. It's a great recorder. It also isn't cheap!

I haven't used a mix-pre but I'm quite sure that the pre-amps are better than what's in the D-50. But whether they're "better...

Re: ND Filter Suggestion

I'm in Tucson and if anything it's worse than Phoenix at noon in the sun - I usually find four stops about right and have even used six on occasion. I use an 82mm with step up ring from the Canon...

Re: Compression Question: From 1080 to 720. How does it work?

Found this - it's a simplified story but ideas are right.

Re: Compression Question: From 1080 to 720. How does it work?

I guess you could call it "merging" but it's pretty complicated and there are a lot of different algorithms. Have to admit you're making me curious about exactly how it's done but sampling is a tough...

Re: Compression Question: From 1080 to 720. How does it work?

No they don't just throw away pixels, instead they re-sample the image and calculate new pixels based on the surrounding hi res pixels. There are quite a few ways to do it - and that's pretty much...

Damn! Some Anti-Social @@@@@ just scooped me on Ebay and got that C100 that had only been used once by a 90 year old lady to take a video of her cat for $50 before I could push the button. Some...

Re: used c100 mk1 - still make sense?

Re: Identifying offending noise by using spectral frequency display

Re: Identifying offending noise by using spectral frequency display

Pretty much the way Alexy suggested - using the Deconstruct module in Izotope 5 Advanced.

Honestly I had never used Deconstruct before so I thought it would be a good chance to learn it and I...

Re: Identifying offending noise by using spectral frequency display

Hi Kathy

Do you have a bit longer clip so we could get a better idea of the pre and post "bang" content - maybe 10 - 15 seconds or so?

Hmmm. Never noticed much noise with mibe - I;ll dig it out after dinner and check. On the other hand I don't have many small files either - mostly long recordings.

Why on earth would a lot of...
