Re: Found on YouTube -- "Making a Case for Books"

Personally, I must be a lazy wretch. There is nothing more offputting than having to make sure a battery is charged, turn on a machine, trust faith that the thing will work, pamper and protect it...

Re: Big ursa magenta screen of death

It is usable again for now. Even its own power management glitch seems to have gone away.

It went through a period where it would not power-on from a battery unless it was "jump-started" from the...

Re: 3D with Z-Cam E2

Ari Presler of Silicon Imaging was doing some interesting stuff with a 3D monitoring system on a single screen. I do not know how far it was progressed.

There was a display overlay which gave...

Re: Big ursa magenta screen of death

A postscript to the broken camera saga.

I managed to find on eBay, another broken Ursa, an EF-Mount. This camera's etiology was incremental demise via power management. There was a strong chance...

Re: "DROP" Indie movie in pre-prod.

Up north there are two snakes which look alike. They are black. One is a python and fairly harmless. The other is poisonous. The poisonous one sweats on a blue if it has a human encounter. The...

Re: "DROP" Indie movie in pre-prod.

I remember that one. Lucky for us over here in the West, we don't have the koala but we do have male possums which will go you if you pass under them close enough.

Did you ever get chased by a...

"DROP" Indie movie in pre-prod.

Many will know of Australia's cute cuddly Koala, the tourist showpiece. The population has been decimated by our indifferent attitude towards conservation in land use.

More recently and...

Re: Big ursa magenta screen of death

Hello again Andrew.

Thank you for checking in. I have been tied up in a slew of other fixits including having no wheels presently so have neglected pursuing the camera. The collective diagnosis...

Re: Si2k without anti-aliasing filter.

I have been revisiting the uncompressed .siv files. They were an impossibilty with the P+S recorder but it seems that the faux-cinemascope cropped image demands less data. I though there might have...

Re: For those who still want to use FIRSTLIGHT - PC

I have received a response on the Blackmagic Resolve forum to a query I posted as to whether they would add support for the burned in .look files from SI2K cineform camera origination.

Resolve...

Re: Why do a lot of filmmakers seem to hate deep focus cinematography?

It is one of those "not because you can but whether and when you should" sort of things.

This debate was happening way back when the first home-made and affordable 35mm groundglass based film...

Re: Si2k without anti-aliasing filter.

With just a plain IR filter in the throat of the camera, no anti-aliasing filter and the 35mm to 2/3" Speedbooster optic in play, the setback required to adjust for the thinner piece of filter glass...

Re: Big ursa magenta screen of death

Thank you very much for that information.

Blackmagic keep their product information obsessively close. Without a circuit diagram, he could be confronted with a heavy mission. Being...

Re: Big ursa magenta screen of death

I have carefully prised the spotwelded tag off the battery body. It turns out to be an ELNA 3.3v 22f supercapacitor. It would have been very helpful to have shop information but BM keeps its...

The screws are pretty straightforward and are equal lengths of each type. There are lots of them.

I sent a message request on the BM world website. They handballed it back to the...

Si2k without anti-aliasing filter.

This is a long shot given the time since the SI2K was subsumed by the 4K+ evolutions.

Has anyone operated the camera with the anti-aliasing filter removed in order to chase some more "apparent"...

Re: Big ursa magenta screen of death

For the sake of the curious, there is a rather poor quality image of the guts of the "big" URSA camera. I have managed to extract the beating heart of the beast without harming anything. So far no...

Big ursa magenta screen of death

Does any one know if there is a likely easy cause to fix it or if the camera which is EOL and out of affordable product product is now a historic artifact. I guess it is back to SI2K for me with the...
