Re: First Canon XA-20 Firmware Update
The instructions were clear and the procedure was very straightforward.
However, the actual upgrade process took longer than I expected.
Just as I began to conclude that something had gone awry, it...

Re: XA 20 Timecode Question
I'll be amazed if they give us a firmware upgrade.
I suspect they will save it all for the Canon XA-30/35...

Re: Advice for New System for CC
I sort of get the idea from what you say that for video editing, where usually you are sort of doing one thing at a time- previewing/editing, or rendering a finished timeline to a different format,...

Harm
So, what gives the best performance for video editing?
Higher clock speed?
More cores?
Dual vs. single??
I was looking at both Dell and HP workstations and the CPU choices are huge.
What...

Re: Advice for New System for CC
Well, I actually managed to hang on to Win XP all the way to Win 7.
I managed to skip the entire Vista era.
From what Harm implied, if I can hold on for another 18 months, Win 9 might be getting...

Re: Advice for New System for CC
I appreciate everyone's advice and comments.
The Tweaker's Page is a great source of info.
As I really begin to examine the nuisance and expense of switching everything over to a new system, I find...

Re: No audio in source playback - Adobe Premiere
If you are using a Sony AVCHD camera, the most bulletproof method of importing the files to your HDD is to use the "Sony Play Memories" software app.
This application will reliably import into the...

Re: XA 20 Timecode Question
It is a surprise, particularly in view of the fact that it was a non-issue on the XA 10
In all fairness I should add that IMO the many new features and changes in the XA 20 make it a better cam than...

Re: XA 20 Timecode Question
For this purpose, I'm not actually interested in recording ANY time code.
I just want the on screen counter to tick off the duration of the current clip, then start from zero with the next clip....

XA 20 Timecode Question
Is there any way to turn timecode off such that the XA 20 time display shows only the length of the last clip and automatically resets to zero when you start recording the next clip.
This was not a...

Re: Speedgrade CS6 questions
I'm not sure what's happening in CS6, but with the latest update of CC you can send a sequence directly from PPro to SG, then after corrections, export the sequence back to PPro.
A HUGE...

Re: CC Update Failures
It's all cleared up now.
Everything has updated properly.
It was just some sort of temporary online glitch with Adobe CC.

Re: CC Update Failures
I think I'll take your advice.
Nothing I've tried has worked anyway.
My applications (PPro, AE, etc.) are all working fine, so I'll just get back to work for now :)

Re: First wedding with XA20
Well done, Tim.
It certainly looks like the XA20 will produce great images over a wide range of shooting conditions.
Next week I'll be starting a fairly big project using a new XA20.
Your trailer...

Are you able to easily color match the Sony and Canon footage such that you can intercut seamlessly, or is this a big hassle??

Re: XA 20 OLED Image
I don't think cost is the issue.
The XA 20 has a fairly hi-end OLED HD display.
It has certainly got to be on a par cost-wise with the Sony CX 760 ($1,500).
I'm guessing that maybe Canon has...

XA 20 OLED Image
I just took delivery of a new XA 20.
To my eye, the OLED screen images look a bit flat and washed out.
Even the VF imagery looks a bit more punchy.
When I import the actual footage, it looks...

Re: MP4 vs. AVCHD
I've also wondered what the purpose of the MP4 option is.
My clue from Canon's literature is that it's maybe to provide a "web ready" codec.
Surely there's more to it that that???
