Don't know if you're aware, but Focusrite do the 'Saffire' which is balanced and also has an onboard DSP for some simple effects. Might be worth checking out.

Even in SD it will be a HUGE improvement, Shoot DVCPro 50, in 4:2:2 colour space, with, I think 3:1 compression ratio. Shoot to P2, solid state - no need to use tape. True 16:9. True slow motion.

I doubt it. Apple get's a lot of cred due to it's out of box experience. You get a set hardware spec that works and don't have to muck around with lots of various drivers and hardware implementations...

Also, the Gl2 has a higher resolution and is sharper out of the box. I absolutely notice this when looking at my footage compared to a friends Xl1s.
