Re: Good Lightweight Tripod System

Seems this thread has done significantly more than its allotted laps, tho' guess that was inevitable given its title, there being no such critter and all.

Back to basics.

Existing scenario:

Re: Virtual beach view video wall

Hi, Jody...............

A couple of questions.

1. Exactly where on the globe does this friend reside, Hamilton having no beach?

2. Wouldn't it be a more useful/ cost effective/ realistic...

Re: O'Connor Loan Program

Er, Garrett,

what, in the name of God, makes you think they'd ever get the thing back?

Between "administrative error" and good 'ol "whoops accounting" I'm pretty sure it will simply disappear...

Re: O'Connor Loan Program

Great info James, though it raises a couple of questions.

Can you (or Steve or Mara-Lynne) clarify where Mara-Lynne fits into the puzzle?

Does she work with/ for Steve in the UK head office for...

Re: Good Lightweight Tripod System

If it wasn't for the rain forest thing, I'd suggest you build/ buy a kind of wheeled golf trolley gizmo so you wouldn't have to carry all that stuff, just pull.

Can't see that working too well up...

Re: Hard drive advice wanted - WD IntelliPower - Yah or Nah?

Hi, Paul.............

It appears that the Green series drives have an intelligent controller that allows the spin speed to be reduced under "no use/ idle" conditions. They can still read & write...

Re: Good Lightweight Tripod System

On reflection, after re - reading all your posts, I have an additional suggestion.

It seems very apparent that the reason your current rig is so tiring to use is its complete unsuitability for the...

Re: Good Lightweight Tripod System

Hmm.

Given the system you're shooting at the moment, the ACE should be better by a country mile, but.........whether that is going to be enough with 600 mm, is, ah, a good question.

Only one...

Re: Good Lightweight Tripod System

The reason I suggested you test it is to establish some sort of benchmark, from one of the few manufacturers which offers the freebie trial thing.

I/ we don't know your pain threshold with tripod/...

Re: Good Lightweight Tripod System

You're right, there is.

If the ACE head uses the same slide QR plate as supplied for the FSB (4, 6, 8 etc) series heads, then there is (good, not exact) compatibility between that plate and the...

Re: Getting a "thump" from external speakers.

Yeah, well we, er, they, do.

The problem is that UK law states that every single plug on every single piece of kit that "plugs" into a standard UK 13 amp socket has to have it's own inbuilt fuse,...

Re: Getting a "thump" from external speakers.

Very comprehensive and clearly written explanation, Greg, full marks.

I read Denis's questions and started trying to list and explain all the things that could be going on, and promptly tied...

Steven...............

First up, good to have you "treading the boards" here on DVinfo, about bloody time too, if I may say so.

You're too valuable a support manufacturer to have out in the cold...

Re: O'Connor Heads and Leaking

Aaron.............

When you say "18" from Matte box to sound recorder" I take it you mean from front to back?

It's that 4", 6" and 8" COG in the table that is the fly in the ointment.

That...

Re: Which Dolly for Benro Tripod A550EX?

Ah, that's for you to find out, I'm afraid.

The Manfrotto site says the 127/ VS is compatible with pretty well all it's single tube stills sticks, whether that means it will be 100% compatible...

Re: Which Dolly for Benro Tripod A550EX?

Can't say for sure as I can't find a clear enough picture of the leg/ foot retaining mechanism, but, assuming that will work with your tripod, you might be better off with the 127VS.

That has the...

Re: O'Connor Heads and Leaking

Something to bear in mind is that anyone using an O'Conner, is, unless they've got considerably more money than sense, a professional who relies on the head practically all day, every day.

As...

Re: Getting a "thump" from external speakers.

I think, from your description of the problem, that there is a far more fundamental mechanism at work here.

As the issue arises even with the sound system disconnected from the sound card/...

Re: Spreader-less Tripods in a DSLR World

I've only known one mid level spreader to break and that was on a Vinten Vb3 set of sticks that turned up here for review (from the UK) with a spreader arm end completely sheered off the arm.

How...

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated.

James, you touched on something that has been giving me a bit of strife since I decided to put up this thread, namely, O'Conner.

It seems pretty...

Re: A deeper question. "Ringing" fluid head

I'll second the motion on the photo's, this I gotta see.

Whilst I think I've got a mental picture of how everything fits together from your description, I'd rather have "think" replaced by "know"...
