Quality-wise, I see less of an argument for going with ProRes files. But, ironically, workflow-wise, perhaps more of an argument can be made, depending on the nature of the shoot, of course.

Doubtful... What probably happened was that when you installed the new version of Catalyst Browse, it installed the newer codec, which is now available to Vegas. In any case, good news!

Vegas Pro is on version 15. Perhaps you just need to upgrade? I don't use Vegas, so I couldn't tell you, but there seems to be a fair bit of chatter about this issue on Google - check around.

The camera is always 8-bit. The HDMI output is uncompressed 4:2:2 8-bit. The internal codecs are always 4:2:0 8-bit.

Those are helpful, but the FS5 is even further removed than the FS100, the camera for which custom profiles are readily available online that I have been using as a jumping off point for the NX3's...
