Lin, just a suggestion...
In the fight scene you might to try something as simple as adjusting the "speed" of the footage. I don't recall what NLE you used, but in Vegas it's called "velocity envelope." This allows the editor (director) to adjust the speed of the clip from slow-mo (-) to fast mo (+). This, combined with tighter cutting, might overcome the weakness of that scene. Just a thought--my two fen. |
Yes, I realized that I could get away with that by adding motion blur as well as speed, since just speeding it up alone just makes it look sped-up. Unfortunately, I only realized this after I'd sent the episode in.

good episode but the fight scenes were laughable. I don't understand why you guys would make the other scenes look pretty good but left the fight scene so bad. If you add some audience laugh SFX to it, it could pass as a bad Saturday Night Live skid or something. I do'nt know who Shirzi is but without giving him/her the benifit of doubt, Shirzi seems pretty bad at choreographing.

Yang,
Kicking a dead horse is one thing... emptying a whole clip in it after a good kicking is another. A little tact goes a long way. Imagine you're talking face to face rather than writing somewhat anonymously. I'll make a bet with you...I bet the next time he films a fight scene, it'll knock everyone's socks off. |
Yang Wen,
Given that both actors are not professional and that they are not martial artists, the fight scene came out pretty good, all things considered. The choreographer did a good job too, especially given the time constraint he was under and the two actors' lack of stage-combat experience. If it had been edited better (and with more close-ups on hands and feet and faces and whatnot), it would have looked amazing. As it stands, I think it didn't succeed. But, that said, I'm not gonna kick somebody in the nutsack just cuz they didn't make the next Once Upon a Time in China on a movie that had no budget and a crew/cast of nothing but volunteers. Constructive criticism is one thing. Malicious criticism is just juevenile. Chris |
I think you guys are taking it too hard on the fight scene, it wasn't that bad, just needed to be cut slightly differently. Leave the guy alone, the rest of the movie was friggen awsome.
Great work, the most film like yet, IMHO. |
