Does anyone have examples of their movie they shot with the GL2 they could show me? I am interested in what people are able to do with this camera. Hopefully you could show a movie that you thought showed a strength in a specific trait, maybe film-like qualities, smooth booming, or tripoding, or good sound? Let's see!
I don't have much right now, I will be starting a documentary soon, but this is something me and my partner in crime did a few weeks ago.

here's a music video kinda thing i shot last weekend. i used two 500watt worklights, my gl2 and a tripod. www.terraform.tv/preview/taylorjames.html . i also overexposed it a bit in some places, i won't make that mistake again!
i'm in the middle of changing servers so the link might go down at any moment so i hope it works.

This is our best production, I'm the tall one in black. I know its not filmed with a GL2, but I thought I'd just post it anyways because I'm about to get one. This is filmed with my Sony PC100 Camcorder.

Just out of cruiousity what editing program did you use and what did you shoot your camera on. I'm kind of a newbie at this and even though I don't have a GL2 yet our school has XL1s that I'd like to try some things like this on. What kind of filters, etc did you do in your editing? As you can see our music video isn't exactly this nice lol a LOT more ametuer quality (The Tribute Music video that is). I thought our Mad World movie turned out a LOT better and it was a LOT better than we expected too.

For that, it was more or less a test video that we made to work out the kinks in my GL2 operation. I had never used my GL2 except for when I played with it in my local apple store. I used Premier for the editing, in which I reduced it to 24 fps, and added Frame Blending. I did a couple color correction filters in some places, but nothing too major, most of what you see is what I shot right off the bat. I used a glidecam 2000 pro for filming, and did it all in a few hours. In some aspects, it was a great success, but the GL2 is capable of much more in my mind, and I didn't do too great of a job of showing what it is capable of...I will post more when I have it.

Corey, that was amazing. That looked really good, I noticed the over exposure, but I think it didn't look too bad and actually added a pretty cool effect.

The "Hallelujah" video lighting is very impressive. I'm guessing you're talking about those $30 500watt halogen worklights that you can get from the hardware store. I've actually tossed around the idea of buying some myself just as a "get me by on an ultra low budget without looking too cheesy" light kit for experimenting, and I'd say you've convinced me. So thank you for that.
Also, I went to your homepage and clicked around. I really like your style... very indie/punk, yet professional. Sort of a strange combination on paper, but it works very well. Anyway, my goal here is to ask about your equipment and effects. It looks as if you either have a lot of expensive programs and equipment or, considering the budget of those lights, you're just extremely creative and resourceful with a few basic programs. I definately respect that.
So, as I get to my question, what are you running in your setup? And how often do you post new videos?

I've bookmarked your site, so I'll be checking back here and there.

Thanks for the compliments. My setup is:
-Canon Gl2 w/century optics .55x wide angle lense
-G4 400mhz, 512mb ram, 100gigs HD space
-Final Cut Pro 3 for editing
-After Effects 5.5 for graphics and color correction
-Protools 001 for sound editing/recording
-For lighting i'll use whatever's around, rent, borrow. I own a couple worklights i bought for $15 a piece at home depot.

I usually update my site a couple times a month, it just depends on how much work i get.

I guess I'll throw out a music video I finished recently (Both Quicktime and Windows Media 9 on page). It was shot with a GL1 and GL2. I directed and edited, as well as a few of the hand held and jib shots (when the crew didn't get what I was asking for). Not quite my kind of music, but it was my first music video and I had fun.

The song is used on Descent, a film on of my friends is editing now. It is a really intense and dark film, and the trailer is available here (Quicktime).

Another video I'm proud of is a seamless transition of a person while they are walking (Windows Media Player 8 Codec ~ 4.9 Mb). It is in the second scene of this clip at about 38 seconds. This is a rough cut for a short film that I am currently editing, and we are almost done shooting, entitled Troubled Man.

Over 95% of Lady X Episode 19 was shot with a GL2. The weakness in the episode is my use of the canera not the camera. You can do some wonderful work with this camera.

Just a note.. the softness in the image was done with a Filter, and not on Post...
Also the washed out colours were done on post on purpose... the original look has bright coloring.

NOTE: xplicid language is used .. to be safe i would rate language MATURE nc 17 ...

Just out of curiousity, how did you do that effect in the beginning, was it a special plug-in for your editing software (which do you use)? Just trying to find out the most I can about editing, etc!!

Frank not sure which project you are referring to as 4-5 are mentioned on thread...

if it's the project i listed .... we use Vegas ..
there are 2 effects used ..BOTH come from Vegas share VEGS ( free download sites)
a VEG is a file that Vegas creates that tells it what clips , fx, how it was edited etc. Vegas creates a separtate Veg for every project you save. many persons will create effects just using Vegas plugin's no outside media needed and they will post them to share with others - the 25 persons block was a VEG created by winrock productions.. i then used 4 of them to make the 100 person block ... it is created using 25 video tracks - every track uses track motion by zooming out of the frame and putting that frame very small inside the 720x480 frame. so you end up with 25 boxes inside the 720x480 frame.. 100 person is using the rendered 25 block 4 times ( then using track motion to place the 4 25person clips inside the 720x480 frame) ..

the MAGNIY glass effect Veg was created by Mary Waitrovich which took an HOUR to figure out how she did it ( even though i had her share VEG) so i'll quote her "this file uses a white solid color generated media with a circle cookie cutter filter applied " Video track 1 she uses a Vegas WHITE solid color generated media file -applys cookie cutter to it ( cuts the whole ) she then KEY frames for hole to move across frame ..
Video track 2 & 3 she uses the same clip on BOTH tracks in this case 25/100 person block ... Video track 2 she uses pan/crop to move in on the clip 50% ( makes it larger) and then moves/pans it across the frame ( should match key frames of track 1) ... she then uses Vegas compositing mode and creates a parent -child between Video track 1 & 2.
on the parent - child she uses a mask generator ( LUMINANCE).
viewing track 1 & 2 only you see a small circle with close up of persons -rest of frame is black ... when you add track 3 in it fills in the black with the 25/100 person block ( no effects) ...

Wow...thanks for the great explanation! I'll have to fool around with those features sometime.
