hard back light, soft key, on camera light... looks good. good composition.

Greg Boston July 26th, 2005 11:57 AM

Great video! Looked really good. Simple yet effective. I liked the tune as well. Jake, since you are in New York City, can I add a shameless plug for the band BennyGirl. My nephew, Matthew Milton is their bass guitarist. They are supposedly close to getting a record deal. I will send them your name if they need a music video.

regards,

Brent Marks July 28th, 2005 02:58 AM

Very cool song... and very good work on the video.

Simple, but very effective in creating emotions...

Nice work.

Jake Hensberry July 28th, 2005 07:38 AM

Thanks Brent! Much appreciated. We all worked pretty hard on it so its great to hear that people like it. Thanks!

Greg Boston July 28th, 2005 09:07 AM

Jake,

Was wondering what camera package you shot this with.

Jake Hensberry July 28th, 2005 09:52 AM

George Su, who comented above, was th DP. It was the DVX 100a, but he has some crazy settings he uses based on a great deal of experience using that camera. We primarily used one omni light and a diva light and a smoke machine that we used to get some diffusion and ambience in the light.

George, care to give Greg some details?

Greg Boston July 28th, 2005 10:00 AM

Thanks Jake. I wasn't looking for a lot of details, just what camera shot the footage.

George Su July 28th, 2005 11:38 AM

we shot on toilet paper. TeePeeCam 3000!

Jake Hensberry July 28th, 2005 11:53 AM

So that's your secret? Damn, I always wondered what you were doing when you spent all that time tweeking the settings and now it all makes sense! I just looked it up in users manual and low and behold it says it right there, "teepee cam 3000 settings rule dude!"

Greg Boston July 28th, 2005 12:31 PM

So, how many minutes of shooting can you get on a standard roll of toilet paper. Any special handling requirements when loading/unloading the camera?

Ok, this is going downhill fast, we better get back on topic.

Jake Hensberry July 28th, 2005 02:07 PM

Okay George, now that we've succsessfully gotten totally silly, would you please grace us with your infinate knowlage of DVX100a camera settings?

Barry Gribble July 28th, 2005 03:24 PM

Jake,

Really nice... the feel of the video matched the song very well. The pacing was nice, the shots were nice, everything worked. I don't have much constructive to say because I just got lost in watching it :). The great thing is that it was actually really few setups, but didn't feel that way.

The only thing that I wanted was something that established the singer behind the drum kit. It took me a while to figure out that he was playing the drums and that confused me a little bit. I also, by the end, found myself wanting one or two moving shots - dolly, pan, zoom, something.

Anyway, keep it up and keep posting.

George Su July 28th, 2005 06:08 PM

just trying to ease the tension, baby...

i don't think GB wants to know the settings, but sure i'll divulge anyway:

all the same stuff dvfilm.com says to use. oh except master ped was -10, i think i can't remember.

Jake Hensberry July 29th, 2005 07:44 AM

You always ease my tension Georgey Worgey! Totaliment Gai! Thanks for revealing your super secret ninja camera settings.

Barry, thats the nicest thing anyone has said about it yet and I really really appreciate it!

Yeah, I know what you mean, belive me. It was a small room, with a crowd of people no less, and I would have liked to move around more too. There are 3 dolly shots in there of the couples though if you look closesly, but those are the only ones. Such is life in low-budget music video land.

Thanks again!

I liked that one a lot more than the GFJD video. Song is better too, good job....
